In the tzcode2007h.tar.gz file, there is (at least) one function that is defined in prototype notation: static time_t hunt(char *name, time_t lot, time_t hit) It seems to me that the code assumes that there is a 64-bit integer type (int_fast64_t (function detzcode64()), though the code goes through some machinations to find a 64-bit integer and doesn't outright assume C99 compliance. Is there actually a good reason not to write the whole library with ISO prototypes? And lose the historically necessary but now unnecessary P macro for declaring functions with (or without) prototypes. Which platform(s) do not provide a C compiler that is capable of handling prototypes? I think there. Is an additional complication here. I believe the Persian calendar begins on the day of the true equinox. This varies over about a 2 day period so there is not a fixed correspondence between Persiam dates and Gregorian. The law is basically reinstating the 1991 regulation of President Rafsanjani's board of ministers which was canceled by President Ahmadinejad's board of ministers a few days before daylight saving was supposed to come into effect again in 2006. BTW, the funny thing is that Hassan Habibi, the First Vice President that signed the 1991 regulation, and Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel, the Parliament's Speaker who signed the 2007 one, have been the only two presidents of Iranian Academy of Persian Language and Literature since its revival in 1990. Habibi became the Academy's President when it was recreated (while also serving as First Vice President) and was replaced by Haddad-Adel after his term finished. But later, Haddad-Adel resigned from the post when he became the Parliament's Speaker, leading in Habibi filling his original position again. Roozbeh

Here are proposed changes to the tz database for the news items we've accumulated recently: * Brazil will observe DST from 2007-10-14 00:00 to 2008-02-17 00:00. (Thanks to Steffen Thorsen for this.) * Egypt switched earlier than we expected. (Thanks to Dirk Losch and Jesper Norgaard Welen for this.) * Likewise for Gaza. (Thanks to Jesper Norgaard Welen for this.) * Iran will resume DST next year. (Thanks to Jesper Norgaard Welen for this.) * Venezuela is currently planning to change time zones on January 1, to -04:30. I note that Pacific/Honolulu and Pacific/Johnston say HST rather than HAST; but America/Adak says HA%sT. Is there a reason for leaving out the 'A' for Hawaii and Johnston Atoll? Hello, My company's application servers use the Olson database as a time zone reference. The following listings appear, which I believe are so-named in the Olson database: London (Greenwich Mean Time) Belfast (Greenwich Mean Time) Dublin (Greenwich Mean Time) These notations are correct only in winter, when all three cities are on GMT. But in Summer, these cities are GMT+1. This means that in summer, there is a conflict within the notation. Note that this conflict does not arise for cities outside the United Kingdom. Taking Paris (Central European Time) as an example, Paris time and Central European Time are always the same, irrespective of the extra hour of Daylight Savings offset from GMT in summer. Saint Barthélemy

I think we should include Saint Barthelemy in the tz database, probably in the northamerica file. Currently I don see any mention of it, so the minimum would be to include the island in an appropriate parenthesis for one of the current timezones. The island has a population of 6,852 in the 1999 consensus. The other reason it should be included is that it has its own country code BL, so it should be in the iso3166.tab file. However wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Barthelemy and the CIA factbook https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/tb.html claim that it uses DST, the first as usual without any detail, while the latter gives the dates starting 20. March and 17. October (for 2007 only?). I have tried to find information on the French-only homepage of the island, but my French skills are definitely not up to the task - perhaps there is no mention of DST in these pages anyhow. The page http://www.st-barths.com/guidepgs/practical.html#10 claims that there is no DST in use in Saint Barthélemy. As usual I welcome any other information that anyone might have to shed light on the possible application of DST on Saint Barthélemy. The sister center ICARDA of my work CIMMYT is confirming that Syria DST will not take place 1.st November at 0:00 o'clock but 1.st November at 24:00 or rather Midnight between Thursday and Friday. This does make more sence than having it between Wednesday and Thursday (two workdays in Syria) since the weekend in Syria is not Saturday and Sunday, but Friday and Saturday. So now it is implemented at midnight of the last workday before weekend. I know this is semi-official information, but that is the best I can do. I hope you will be able to receive the graphics "Winter Time.jpg" if not here is the essential part of the text (it's a scanned letter with ICARDA letterhead): "Winter local time in Syria will be observed at midnight of Thursday 1 November 2007, and the clock will be put back 1 hour." Australian Daylight Saving Time Changes

The states of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and the Australian Capital Territory will now have summer time from 2am standard time on the first Sunday in October to 2am standard time on the first Sunday in April. These changes start with the end of summer time in 2008, and will result in the above locations having the same summer time as Tasmania. IATA Airport Identifiers

Hi, I maintain a file that maps the zone name for about 1800 airports to their IATA, ICAO and FAA identifiers. For instance: # Toronto, Ontario, Canada - Pearson International Airport Link America/Toronto IATA/YYZ Link America/Toronto ICAO/YYZ Link America/Toronto FAA/CYYZ We append this data to tz's backward file and it simplifies life for us, since we deal extensively with aircraft routing information. I haven't been able to find anyone else that doing a similar thing and would like to make this data publicly available in the event that it would be of use. The need to do time calculations by airport ID isn't all that common, but if you need to, these mappings are really, really, helpful.
