For Italy in 1944 zone Europe/Rome there is a discrepancy between the comment and the data. comment: # From Paul Eggert (2016-10-27): # Go with INRiM for DST rules, except as corrected by Inglis for 1944 # for the Kingdom of Italy. This is consistent with Renzo Baldini. # Model Rome's occupation by using C-Eur rules from 1943-09-10 # to 1944-06-04; although Rome was an open city during this period, it # was effectively controlled by Germany. Data for Italy is Rule Italy 1944 only - Apr 2 2:00s 1:00 S Data for C-Eur is: Rule C-Eur 1944 1945 - Apr Mon>=1 2:00s 1:00 S where Mon>=1 in 1944 is April 3. So Rome is NOT following C-Eur. I think the rule for Itay is right, only the comment is misleading.

'Australia/Canberra' time zone?

Hi there I have been a bit surprised that the TZDATA database lacks a listing for "Australia/Canberra", population 350,000. What is the basis for deciding which cities are included or excluded from the database? Does being the national capital, and the major city in its own state/territory warrant inclusion, or is there another criterion? Here is what I believe to be an official source about the Canberra timezone (at least for the present day): https://www.australia.gov.au/about-australia/facts-and-figures/time-zones-a… Cheers JP

Support for the IANA database in the Python standard library

Hey folks, Just thought I'd draw your attention to my recent proposal to add IANA (e.g. /usr/share/zoneinfo) time zone support to Python's standard library: PEP 615 ( https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0615/ ). I sent out the proposal today, discussion is happening on the Python discourse: https://discuss.python.org/t/3468 There is a reference implementation for the proposed module here (in Python): https://github.com/pganssle/zoneinfo Any feedback on the proposal would be very welcome -- as many of you can imagine, it can sometimes be hard to get too much feedback on time zone and datetime-related proposals because a great many people (probably rightly so) are just happy that someone /else/ is thinking about it so they don't have to. The discourse is the canonical location for the discussion, so commenting there would be best, but beggars can't be choosers, so I'll happily pass on comments made on this list or sent to me personally. Do Yukoners care about DST more than cannabis?

The Yukon government recently surveyed its citizens for their opinion whether Yukon should stay on PST all year, stay on MST all year, or continue the current practice of PST in winter and PDT in summer. The survey closed Sunday, and the government says it got more than 4800 responses, which is a new record.
