I just noticed that in the note regarding Zone America/Los_Angeles in the northamerica data file, in addition to specifying that the northern three quarters of Idaho County, Idaho are included in the zone, it also lists Idaho County among the counties that are entirely included. # US Pacific time, represented by Los Angeles # # California, northern Idaho (Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Clearwater, # Idaho, Kootenai, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce, and Shoshone counties, # and the northern three-quarters of Idaho county), # most of Nevada, most of Oregon, and Washington Hank W., Austin, Texas, USA

Rob Seaman NOAO -- Dear Colleague, This is an announcement of a splinter meeting to be held at the upcoming 223rd Meeting of the American Astronomical Society at the Gaylord National Resort near Washington, DC: The Future of Time Sunday, 5 January 2014 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm National Harbor 6 (note room change) Time is a very broad subject and contacts are being made among distant corners of the AAS community, including history and E/PO, observatory operations, software and systems, and in various fields of research. The topic is a proposal being vigorously pursued within the International Telecommunication Union, an agency of the United Nations, that would redefine Coordinated Universal TIme (the time on your alarm clock, wristwatch, computer and smartphone) to no longer be tied to the rotation of the Earth. We will discuss the historical context for this unprecedented proposal, as well as its significant implications for the practice of astronomy. The 2013i release of the tz code and data is available. It reflects the following changes, which were either circulated on the tz mailing list or are relatively minor technical or administrative changes: Changes affecting near-future time stamps: Jordan switches back to standard time at 00:00 on December 20, 2013. The 2006-2011 transition schedule is planned to resume in 2014. (Thanks to Steffen Thorsen.) Changes affecting past time stamps: In 2004, Cuba began DST on March 28, not April 4. (Thanks to Steffen Thorsen.) Changes affecting code The compile-time flag NOSOLAR has been removed, as nowadays the benefit of slightly shrinking runtime table size is outweighed by the cost of disallowing potential future updates that exceed old limits. Changes affecting documentation and commentary The files solar87, solar88, and solar89 are no longer distributed. They were a negative experiment -- that is, a demonstration that tz data can represent solar time only with some difficulty and error. Their presence in the distribution caused confusion, as Riyadh civil time was generally not solar time in those years. tz-link.htm now mentions Noda Time. (Thanks to Matt Johnson.) Please add Antarctica/Concordia and MZS to the timezone database

Dear timezone database maintainers, in 2011 you received a request from Paolo Perfetti to add two research stations located in Antarctica to the timezone database, Concordia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concordia_Station that follows the Australia/Perth timezone, and Mario Zucchelli, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Zucchelli_Station that follows New Zealand's NZST. Here is the original request: http://lists.debian.org/debian-glibc/2011/05/msg00157.html As I'm currently located in Concordia (and I will be for a year) I strongly second Paolo's request. Jordan back from DST - reverting to UTC+2

Jordan Times and other sources say that Jordan is going back to UTC+2 on 2013-12-19 at midnight: http://jordantimes.com/govt-decides-to-switch-back-to-wintertime (in English) Official, in Arabic: http://www.petra.gov.jo/public_news/Nws_NewsDetails.aspx?Menu_ID=&Site_Id=2… We assume they mean going back from 2013-12-20 00:00 to 2013-12-19 23:00, but it could also be one hour later, which is what they have normally done in the past. Based on the wording in the article, they call it coming back to winter time, so I think it would be best to change the Rules for Jordan and Zone for Amman, so it says DST started back in March 2012, never ended for the 2012/2013 winter and lasted all to December 2013.
