Hi, The rules for Finland say that summer time was in force in 1942 from Apr 3 to Oct 3: # Rule NAME FROM TO TYPE IN ON AT SAVE LETTER/S Rule Finland 1942 only - Apr 3 0:00 1:00 S Rule Finland 1942 only - Oct 3 0:00 0 - However, http://almanakka.helsinki.fi/images/aikakirja/Aikakirja2013kokonaan.pdf pages 104-105, including a scan from a newspaper published on Apr 2 1942 say that it should be Oct 4, not Oct 3. On Apr 2 1942, 24 o’clock (which means Apr 3 1942, 0:00 o’clock), clocks were moved one hour forward. The newspaper mentions “on the night from Thursday to Friday”. The tz entry is correct for the start of the daylight saving time. On Oct 4 1942, clocks were moved at 1:00 one hour backwards. The tz entry should be corrected. Apparently not only the date, but also the time of day is wrong in the entry. Hope this helps. Konstantin Hyppönen

The 2014e release of the tz code and data is available. It reflects the following changes, which were either circulated on the tz mailing list or are relatively minor technical or administrative changes: Changes affecting near-future time stamps Egypt's 2014 Ramadan-based transitions are June 26 and July 31 at 24:00. (Thanks to Imed Chihi.) Guess that from 2015 on Egypt will temporarily switch to standard time at 24:00 the last Thursday before Ramadan, and back to DST at 00:00 the first Friday after Ramadan. Similarly, Morocco's are June 28 at 03:00 and August 2 at 02:00. (Thanks to Milamber Space Network.) Guess that from 2015 on Morocco will temporarily switch to standard time at 03:00 the last Saturday before Ramadan, and back to DST at 02:00 the first Saturday after Ramadan. Changes affecting past time stamps The abbreviation "MSM" (Moscow Midsummer Time) is now used instead of "MSD" for Moscow's double daylight time in summer 1921. Also, a typo "VLASST" has been repaired to be "VLAST" for Vladivostok summer time in 1991. (Thanks to Hank W. for reporting the problems.)
