I have been practicing astrology in Switzerland since 1980 (in recent years running the website www.astro.com) and have never come upon any source which claimed DST in Switzerland for 1940. A current source is for example metas.ch/metasweb/Themen/sommerzeit;internal which is the Federal office for meteorology. This page has (near the bottom) Sommerzeit 1941 bis 1942 Bei Beginn wurden die Uhren von 01:00 auf 02:00 Uhr vorgestellt und am Ende entsprechend von 02:00 auf 01:00 h zurückgestellt. (begin at 1 am, clocks shifted to 2am; end 2am, clocks shifted to 1 am) 1942 begin 4. Mai end 5. Oktober 1941 begin 5. Mai end 6. Oktober This is what Shanks has in the International Atlas, all editions. He is wrongly quoted in tzdata. 5 may 1941 is a monday, 6 Oct 1942 is a monday. 4 may 1942 and 5 Oct 1942 are also mondays. The rules must either be changed to Rule Swiss 1941 1942 - May Mon>=1 2:00 1:00 S Rule Swiss 1941 1942 - Oct Mon>=1 0:00 0 - or made explicit for these two years, 1941 and 1942. The rule for 1940 must be deleted. time during standard to DST transition

Hello, We ran into a problem when setting time to the "missing hour" during transition from standard time to DST time. For example, setting time to Mar 8, 2009 at 2:10am using America/Los_Angeles time zone results in error. Should mktime() skip forward in this case and set the time to Mar 8, 2009 3:10am? Jennifer

Mahe India TZ off 1 hr 30 min

Hi, I found that Mahe, India (Mahe is the only city in India in the TZ? It's all one timezone anyway) has an error in the tz database. Per the world clock's meeting time program (using the TZ?): http:// www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/meetingtime.html? month=12&day=17&year=2008&p1=44&p2=224&p3=179&p4=-1 If it is 10:00 am Los Angeles time Wednesday Dec 17th, 2008, it is 11:30 p.m. in Mahe/Mumbai/India. But when I'm using the TZ in my perl program I get 10:00 p.m. Could you check that out for me? I've had to update my perl script to add 1 hour & 30 min. Thanks, julie

Hello, I propose that the name of the Asia/Katmandu zone be changed to Asia/Kathmandu. Although Katmandu is an acceptable alternate spelling, I can attest, having recently returned from a holiday in Nepal, that it is hardly ever used. In fact, I saw no occurence at all of the spelling 'Katmandu' while inside the country. This patch keeps the Katmandu spelling for backward compatibility.
