Below find proposed changes to two files in the time zone package, "asia" (changing the starting and ending time-of-day of DST in Bangladesh in 2010 and forward) and "australasia" (changing the end of DST in Fiji in 2010, adding DST in Fiji in 2010/2011, removing DST in Samoa in 2009/2010, and adding DST in Samoa in 2010/2011). If no problems are found, I plan to update the ftp version on 2010-03-08. No Tunisia DST in 2010 ?

Hi there, many thanks for the continued excellent work from all the contributors to this list, much appreciated. Last year (2009) I believe that Tunisia suspended DST and the africa file was updated to reflect this change for 2009 only. The timeanddate.com entry for Tunis now states "No daylight saving time in 2010" though I have been unable to find any news reports or official announcements about this. Cheers, Phil. The Cabinet in Fiji has decided to end DST about a month early, on 2010-03-28 at 03:00. The plan is to observe DST again, from 2010-10-24 to sometime in March 2011 (last Sunday a good guess?). We received a report from Bangladesh saying that the start/end of Bangladesh DST is incorrect. Currently we have only the Bengali version of the official mail from BTRC which describes the following: "From 2010 each year when local standard time is about to reach March 31 at 10:59:00 PM clocks are turned forward 1 hour (11:59:00 PM) and when local daylight time is about to October 31 at 11:59:00 PM clocks are turned backward 1 hour (10:59:00 PM)." core dump from within asctime_r()

A NetBSD user reported fsck dumping core (when attempting to correct a corrupted filesystem). That's not nice. Upon investigation, the core dump turns out to be from within asctime_r() (as called via asctime() from ctime()). The code in fsck just does p = ctime(&t); where "t" contains one of the time fields from an (already determined to be corrupted, or we wouldn't be printing) inode. ctime() is (or course) just asctime(locatime(t)) locatime() can return NULL these days, and given a nonsense time value (which is quite likely under these circumstances), probably did, but asctime() doesn't expect anything but a valus "struct tm *" and will simply dereference NULL is NULL is returned from localtime() - instant core. It would be possible to make ctime() be tm = localtime(t); if (tm == NULL) return NULL; return asctime(tm); and in theory that would be adequate, but I'm actually going to suggest moving the fix into asctime() (into asctime_r() really of course), and have asctime_r() start if (timeptr == NULL) return NULL; I think that's a safer fix. Appended is the patch I suggest, made against the tzcode2009t sources (latest I believe.) kre

By decree number 3958 issued yesterday ( http://www.presidencia.gov.py/v1/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/decreto3958.pdf) Paraguay changes its DST schedule, postponing the March rule to April and modifying the October date. The decree reads: ... Art. 1. It is hereby established that from the second Sunday of the month of April of this year (2010), the official time is to be set back 60 minutes, and that on the first Sunday of the month of October, it is to be set forward 60 minutes, in all the territory of the Paraguayan Republic. ... Below find proposed changes to the time zone package: * asctime.c Set errno to EINVAL and return "??? ??? ?? ??:??:?? ????\n" if asctime_r is called with a NULL struct tm pointer. (Note that asctime_r is called by ctime_r and asctime; asctime is called by ctime.) * localtime.c Set errno to EINVAL and return WRONG if time1 is called with a NULL struct tm pointer; avoid dereference if a NULL struct tm pointer is passed to timelocal, timegm, or timeoff. Here is what I have done so far... 1. Downloaded the code and latest tzdata from ftp://elsie.nci.nih.gov/pub/. 2. Good day! There are two rules for Mauritius in current version of timezone/africa: Rule Mauritius 2008 max - Oct lastSun 2:00s 1:00 S Rule Mauritius 2009 max - Mar lastSun 2:00s 0 - It's wrong, because Mauritius used DST only in 2008/2009, prooflinks: http://www.timeanddate.com/news/time/mauritius-daylight-saving-time.html http://www.timeanddate.com/news/time/mauritius-dst-will-not-repeat.html So, rules should be: Rule Mauritius 2008 only - Oct lastSun 2:00s 1:00 S Rule Mauritius 2009 only - Mar lastSun 2:00s 0 - or something like that. -- Best regards, Leonid A. I've found this government-site web page... http://dof.gob.mx/nota_detalle.php?codigo=5127480&fecha=06/01/2010 ...indicating that Ensenada is indeed to use US DST rules starting in 2010; I'll adjust the proposed time zone package changes accordingly and hope to send something out later today. --ado

I am asking for a way to give zdump a timezone, date and hour, so zdump (or other command) can give me the "isdst". Another way could be to give time zone (or Country and city), date and hour and get the UTC and "isdst". Should it be possible? Thanks in advance.
