Guatemala had been toying with the idea of observing DST this year, but on Tuesday the Cabinet of Ministers of Guatemala decided not to. So we shouldn't need to change the tz database in this area. Addition to tz compiler list

I've created a tz-database converter called tziCal which takes the tz database files and compiles them into a single iCalendar (.ics) file that is compliant with RFC 2445. This program is similar to VZIC, except it is built with the .NET Framework 2.0, and has a pre-built tool for compiling these files. I just wanted to let everyone know another tool existed. Here are proposed changes for the tz database. The most pressing changes are for Turkey and Pulaski County, Indiana, as they affect clock transitions next month. * Turkey switches at 01:00 standard time, not at 01:00 UTC. (Thanks to Amar Devegowda and Steffen Thorsen for this.) * Pulaski County, Indiana, is switching from CST/CDT to EST/EDT next month (which means a 2-hour change on March 11). This requires a new Zone, America/Indiana/Winamac. (Thanks to Gwillim Law for the heads-up.) * A slight correction to Easter Island Mean Time (1890-1932). * Update comments for Canada. Hello, I just download files tzdata*.tar.gaz from you FTP server and to my surprise there is no AST4ADT file after compiling? I have a server in Montreal(Canada) so I can use the EST5EDT file, but also need to update one in Halifax (Canada), and I cannot see any AST4ADT file. Hello , The following steps are done by me in RHEL 4 machine 1. I have downloaded Only tzdata2007a.tar.gz from ftp://elsie.nci.nih.gov/pub/ 2. And I compiled using zic as Example: zic -d zoneinfo/ northamerica -L leapseconds -y yearistype.sh where zoneinfo is my temporary directory 3. And replaced the files to /usr/share/zoneinfo directory 4. Deleted Existing /etc/localtime 4. Copied the new zoneinfo Timezone as cp /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/Los_Angeles /etc/localtime 5. After the above execution I tested using zdump -v /etc/localtime | grep 2007 I found the result as Mar & Nov Correctly please tell me that 1. The above timezonedata .. i.e. tzdata2007a.tar.gz is enough for to update below listed OS List Of Linux ~~~~ ~~ ~~~~~ Redhat ES 4 Redhat ES 3 Enteprise Version ES 3. I am sending the image of the fax that is sent by the government. The newspaper is normally in Turkish. I want to explain it briefly: "26 Mart 2000 Pazar günü saat 01:00'den itibaren bir saat ileri al?nmas?" means "clocks will be set 1 hour forward (will be GMT+3 ) on 26 March 2000 Sunday at 01:00" 01:00 is the local time (23:00 GMT Saturday) and "29 Ekim 200 Pazar günü saat 02:00'den itibaren bir saat geri al?nmas?" means "clocks will be set 1 hour back (will be GMT+2 ) on 29 October 2000 Sunday at 02:00" 02:00 is the local time (23:00 GMT Satruday) I think these documents are enough to show the daylight saving policy of Turkey is: Standard Time = GMT+2 Summer Time = GMT+3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So to summarize, the customer has provided a citation from the turkish government which tells about the latest DST rules. I have attached the jpg in this mail. Please review the same and provide your inputs as to whether this information would suffice to change the database timezone rules for Turkey. Turkey is attempting to join the European Union (it's listed as a candidate country on the <http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/europe/european-union/> page). This is proving a long and painful process. It may be that Turkey has officially switched to the EU 01:00 UTC clock change time recently as part of this EU application process. It may be that the website is just confused, showing all pages under the european-union directory as using EU rules even if they don't. I would also go with Devegowda and Thorsen, mainly on the basis that I think it's very unlikely that a country that far east would use 01:00 UTC unless forced to by something like EU rules.
