Yesterday the government in Jordan announced that they will not switch back to standard time this winter, so the will stay on DST until about the same time next year (at least). Hi, This years DST time in Brazil has one (or two) new situations: - Tocantins state will have DST. For the new time zone I believe Palmas would be a good option as it's Tocantins capital and most populated city. - Bahia (another state) will not have DST. But I believe it havent' last year already but this has to be checked. any chance we can have the PGP files on the FTP sever too, like openssl does (http://www.openssl.org/source/)? if there were a corresponding .md5/.sha1/.asc file, i'd modify Android's tzdata updating script to actually check the signatures. at the moment, with the signature only available in the release mail, it's not obvious how i'd automate this. America/Bahia will not join Brazilian DST in 2012

tzcode2012g and tzdata2012g available

The 2012g release of the tz code and data is available. It reflects the following changes recently circulated on the tz mailing list: Samoa fall 2012 and later. (Thanks to Nicholas Pereira and Robert Elz.) Palestine fall 2012. (Thanks to Steffen Thorsen.) Assume C89. This release does not reflect the possible changes discussed yesterday for Tocantins and Bahia; I plan to send out further email about that soon. Nor does it include the minor C style-code change for NULL versus 0 -- I plan to get to that the next time around, since it doesn't affect functionality. To attack the version-number problem, this release ships the file 'Makefile' (which contains the release number) in both the tzcode and the tzdata tarballs. The two Makefiles are identical, and should be identical in any matching pair of tarballs, so it shouldn't matter which order you extract the tarballs. Proposal for a modern 'Collapsed' Namespace

Hi there, I would like to propose solving the following issues for many users by adding a new file in the TZ database: - The much referenced issue of 1.4 billion+ people on Beijing time being semantically mismatched to their timezone entry, which for lack of meaningful alternative timezone identification strings winds up getting displayed to users. - The lack of a functional entry for the widely used but unofficial Xinjiang or Wulumuqi time of western China. - General accrual of crufty old timezones. - The need for a shared database of decent multilingual timezone names and descriptions. - The problem of how to display a timezone to the user that is detected via zone.tab and GeoIP, or similar methods. Please find attached my proposal, which is born of developer requirements and primarily the consideration for end user experience rather than that of historical correctness in edge cases.
