Mexico sticks to Fox' time

In the last minute before USA changes from Standard time to Daylight time, I found some references to the mexican application of daylight saving, which modifies what I had already sent you, stating earlier that a number of northern mexican states would go on daylight saving. The modification reverts this to only cover Baja California (Norte), while all other states (except Sonora, who has no daylight saving all year) will follow the original decree of president Vicente Fox, starting daylight saving May 6, 2001 and ending September 30, 2001. As the Supreme Court case of the head of Government of Distrito Federal, Andres Manuel López Obrador, has not been settled yet, we are still left with doubt what the situation will be right before May 6 (where the court case *must* be decided), and Distrito Federal may decide not to apply daylight saving all year round. I will inform you when I know more about that case. I trawled about 15 Mb of different electronic newspapers of Mexico, and I can recommend you the page http://www.galiciavirtual.net/coruna/prensa/periodicos/sudamerica/mexico.htm which has an big collection of 105 links of this type, if you are interested in mexican electronic news. The first link that gave authoritative information was "Diario de Monterrey", from one of the states (Nuevo León) that was supposed to use daylight saving as US, and not wait until May 6. Unfortunately Diario de Monterrey doesn't allow a direct quote of the page, which also leads to the suspicion that it may not be found the way I found it today, so I included the whole text. I found it by browsing the general page, and then under the heading "Metrópoli" there was a link with text "El horario de verano iniciará el 6 de mayo" ====== Begin Quote from www.diariodemonterrey.com/index.asp ===== El horario de verano iniciará el 6 de mayo por Juan Gerardo Porras El decreto presidencial no fue modificado. A diferencia de años anteriores, en esta ocasión el tema de la aplicación del horario de verano provocó más controversia. Esto por las distintas opiniones de gobernadores de estados fronterizos, así como del jefe del Gobierno del Distrito Federal, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, quien difirió con el presidente Vicente Fox Quesada. Los argumentos que da el gobierno federal son principalmente el ahorro de energía eléctrica a nivel nacional, y las relaciones comerciales con los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica. Under "-Negocios" portada file "http://palabra.infosel.com/010331/primera/pneg3113.pdf" gives the full story which was mentioned in the previous PDF file, and also has some interesting points about customs offices and the mexican stock exchange which will change their working hours in the period where there is difference between US and mexican states (e.g. until May 6, 2001) so as to compensate for the difference in actual time.
