In the tzcode2007h.tar.gz file, there is (at least) one function that is defined in prototype notation: static time_t hunt(char *name, time_t lot, time_t hit) It seems to me that the code assumes that there is a 64-bit integer type (int_fast64_t (function detzcode64()), though the code goes through some machinations to find a 64-bit integer and doesn't outright assume C99 compliance. Is there actually a good reason not to write the whole library with ISO prototypes? And lose the historically necessary but now unnecessary P macro for declaring functions with (or without) prototypes. Which platform(s) do not provide a C compiler that is capable of handling prototypes? I think there. Is an additional complication here. I believe the Persian calendar begins on the day of the true equinox. This varies over about a 2 day period so there is not a fixed correspondence between Persiam dates and Gregorian. The law is basically reinstating the 1991 regulation of President Rafsanjani's board of ministers which was canceled by President Ahmadinejad's board of ministers a few days before daylight saving was supposed to come into effect again in 2006. BTW, the funny thing is that Hassan Habibi, the First Vice President that signed the 1991 regulation, and Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel, the Parliament's Speaker who signed the 2007 one, have been the only two presidents of Iranian Academy of Persian Language and Literature since its revival in 1990. Habibi became the Academy's President when it was recreated (while also serving as First Vice President) and was replaced by Haddad-Adel after his term finished. But later, Haddad-Adel resigned from the post when he became the Parliament's Speaker, leading in Habibi filling his original position again. Roozbeh

Here are proposed changes to the tz database for the news items we've accumulated recently: * Brazil will observe DST from 2007-10-14 00:00 to 2008-02-17 00:00. (Thanks to Steffen Thorsen for this.) * Egypt switched earlier than we expected. (Thanks to Dirk Losch and Jesper Norgaard Welen for this.) * Likewise for Gaza. (Thanks to Jesper Norgaard Welen for this.) * Iran will resume DST next year. (Thanks to Jesper Norgaard Welen for this.) * Venezuela is currently planning to change time zones on January 1, to -04:30. Currently the format is EST for eastern states and WST for western states. This is incorrect. The Australian Government defines time zone names as follows: Time Zones There are three times zones in Australia - Eastern Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) is equal to Greenwich Mean Time plus 10 hours (GMT +10). AEST is followed in these regions: • New South Wales (except Broken Hill) • Victoria • Queensland • Tasmania • Australian Capital Territory Central Australian Central Standard Time (ACST) is equal to Greenwich Mean Time plus 9 ½ hours (GMT +9 ½). ACST is followed in these regions: • South Australia • Northern Territory • Broken Hill, NSW Western Australian Western Standard Time (AWST) is equal to Greenwich Mean Time plus 8 hours (GMT +8). HST vs. HAST

A newbie question that could have an answer similar to the recent question about Australian time zones... I note that Pacific/Honolulu and Pacific/Johnston say HST rather than HAST; but America/Adak says HA%sT. Is there a reason for leaving out the 'A' for Hawaii and Johnston Atoll?
