A nice way to end a fairly productive year. Plans coming up: There will be a Universal Acceptance gathering on Monday the 8th of January in Hong Kong with the Hong Kong IT Community. This is being organised by .asia, ISOC HK and UASG. If you’ve not yet received an invitation but will be in Hong Kong that afternoon, please let me know and we’ll organise one. 15:00 - 18:00 at the Sheraton. The UASG Coordination Group will be meeting on Tuesday the 9th of January and the morning of the 10th if necessary, also in Hong Kong. The agenda will be out next week. Full remote participation will be available if there’s interest. There will be a meeting of EAI operators on the 11th and 12th in Guangzhou, China, hosted by Coremail and CNNIC. If you are an EAI practitioner and would like to participate and have not otherwise registered, please let me know. I expect that we’ll have remote participation facilities. The UASG is expecting another UA Workshop on Day 0 of the ICANN meeting in Puerto Rico as well as a public update session during the week. Dates and venues still to be confirmed. Looks really good. Actually, having now seen your business card, I have another suggestion😁 Blue is a colour that most computer users would associate with links. I have been in computing since the beginning of the web. Blue as a link colour is ingrained in my thinking and mouse movements. So much so that documents which highlight non-link text in blue really throw me. Without consciously thinking about the text that is highlighted in blue, I am expecting it to be a link. And without reading the text that is highlighted in blue I am expecting it to be a link. This is all happening subconsciously. Only once I focus and think about it consciously do I realise that the blue is being used to highlight ordinary text and it does not indicate a link. Thankfully not many documents use blue to highlight non-link text because I think I would find that quite annoying. So, my suggestion is to colour blue the email and web links in the bottom right hand corner of your business card, rather than white. It then, at a glance, makes it more obvious that these are links. Now, what I have written is also contradictory because I have used https:// so that my Apple Mail App will linkify. When I put links in my webpages I would only display to users 한국인터넷정보센터.한국 My hope for the future is that linkification will become more sophisticated and be able linkify 한국인터넷정보센터.한국 without the need for www or https:// thus resulting, in this case, a fully korean hangeul domain name. So, I suggest the working practice — when possible (which I think is most of the time), drop both the www and https:// when presenting the domain name to end users. Dear all: The APRIGF has recently completed the compilation of their Synthesis document which looks to bring the wide variety of threads covered during the meeting earlier this year in Bangkok into a single place. The document is dense. Each paragraph has many threads of interest. Highlights from UASG Coordination Call - December 5, 2017

First of all, my apologies for getting confused around time zones. While the ‘official’ notes are being reviewed by those who attended, here are the highlights: Approval for recruitment of two positions was given - Senior Developer - Technology Marketing Specialist Government CIO Engagement Strategy was approved UA Ambassador program to be pursued Email blocked because the blocking software is not UA aware is a UA issue. Email blocked because the blocking software sees the TLD as fostering malware (or such) is not a UA issue. UASG Awards program to proceed with focus on industry groups - not on Internet industry Meetings in Hong Kong and Guangzhou to proceed. I’ll send the more formal notes out later this week. Domainers

Would IDNs even exist today if it was not for Domainers? I suspect that IDNs would have been abandoned long ago if it was not for Domainers. I believe that Domainers are the majority holders of IDNs. The .ie ccTLD introduced IDN in .ie recently so that our local ccTLD could finally support the Irish language. You can now register a .ie domain using a fada (the accent) See http://fada.ie/ (disclosure: we run it) Domainers had absolutely nothing to do with that decision. Zero. Nada. While the takeup of IDNs in .ie hasn’t been exactly “huge” it has allowed companies and other organisations whose names included fadas to register their “real” name.
