A nice way to end a fairly productive year. Plans coming up: There will be a Universal Acceptance gathering on Monday the 8th of January in Hong Kong with the Hong Kong IT Community. This is being organised by .asia, ISOC HK and UASG. If you’ve not yet received an invitation but will be in Hong Kong that afternoon, please let me know and we’ll organise one. 15:00 - 18:00 at the Sheraton. The UASG Coordination Group will be meeting on Tuesday the 9th of January and the morning of the 10th if necessary, also in Hong Kong. The agenda will be out next week. Full remote participation will be available if there’s interest. There will be a meeting of EAI operators on the 11th and 12th in Guangzhou, China, hosted by Coremail and CNNIC. If you are an EAI practitioner and would like to participate and have not otherwise registered, please let me know. I expect that we’ll have remote participation facilities. The UASG is expecting another UA Workshop on Day 0 of the ICANN meeting in Puerto Rico as well as a public update session during the week. Dates and venues still to be confirmed. Implementing RFC 8398

Hello, Some time ago IETF has finalized RFC 8398 (Internationalized Email Addresses in X.509 Certificates). It describes using EAI in X.509 certificates, validation rules of such certificates etc. There are a lot of standards where ASCII-only email is the only option, and new standards allowing the EAI are just appearing. The X.509 certificates and email in it is just one such a place. I'm familiar with OpenSSL enough to implement the RFC 8398 (Internationalized Email Addresses in X.509 Certificates) standard in OpenSSL code, if the UA community is interested enough in it. https://whois.icann.org/en does not successfully locate IDN domains even if the domain name is input as ALabels.

The error produced here tells something else and contradictory to the content written by ICANN on whois page. It seems that this ICANN Whois is valid only for gTLDs not for all other domains. Technical Constraints to UA & EIA success

Dear all: I was recently asked what technical barriers still remain for the technical community to resolve around UA & EAI. I do know that the biggest obstacles we still see are around implementation of already ratified standards, not a lack of standards. There are some issues around IDNA and Unicode versions. (How far did PRECIS go do addressing these?) But as to technical constraints beyond implementation, I'm not certain. So, I said I'd ask.
