I was coding together with ChatGPT 4o today. *It suggested me the following (in Lua)*: -- Extract the TLD extension (e.g., 'com' from 'example.com') local tldExtension = tldName:match("%.([a-zA-Z0-9]+)$") *To which I replied*: "This is not IDN-compliant." *To which ChatGPT replied*: "You're absolutely right! The pattern |%.([a-zA-Z0-9]+)$| is not IDN-compliant because it does not account for Unicode characters in internationalized domain names (IDNs)." And ChatGPT proceeded to suggest a list of several more UA-Ready approaches. *WHAT I TOOK AWAY FROM THIS*: We need to continue making as many developers as possible aware that relying on these old RegEx is a bad idea. That way, even when LLMs insert the RegEx into the code, all it takes is one warning for the developer to be pointed in the right direction... but they need to know that this is a problem in the first place! Dear all, Main UA Day event announcement has been published at https://www.icann.org/en/announcements/details/save-the-dates-ua-day-event-…. The global Internet community is gearing up to celebrate the third annual Universal Acceptance (UA) Day. The main UA Day 2025 event will take center stage on 8 May in Hanoi, Vietnam, kicking off the APAC DNS Forum<https://apacdnsforum.asia/>. It is being organized in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization<https://www.unesco.org/en> (UNESCO) and the ICANN community, including the Universal Acceptance Steering Group<https://uasg.tech/> (UASG). These events also coincide with the Contracted Parties Summit<https://www.icann.org/cpsummit>, which will also be held in Hanoi. Nearly 60 additional UA Day 2025<https://www.icann.org/ua-day-2025-events-en> events will take place from March through the end of May to promote UA adoption, with virtual, in-person, and hybrid participation. ICANN's collaboration with UNESCO<https://www.icann.org/en/announcements/details/icann-and-unesco-join-forces…> will allow for broader and more diverse outreach efforts and further build on the momentum achieved in the previous two years.
