Maybe email addresses and URLs might not matter anymore?

UA Colleagues: We spend a lot of time thinking about universal acceptance of email addresses and URLs. We tend to assume that email addresses and URLs are important. But for a lot of information technology users, they aren't. Those users learned to use IT via mobile, rather than via desktop computers. They use all-embracing messaging apps like WeChat, or walled garden social media sites where you find what you want by search. In these environments, email addresses and URLs just don't matter as much as they do in longer-established, and Anglo-centric, IT cultures. The following explanation may well have errors/misunderstandings as my knowledge of Chinese is rather poor but here is my current understanding. The above is part of an initiative to offer people the opportunity to register a domain name of the form "my name".网址. Basically the brand is the person. So, for example, if I were to register a domain name with my adopted Chinese name then I would register 小山.网址. The content of my 小山.网址 website would mainly be information about my involvement in Computer Science Internationalisation. Actually I would also have a section about Colour :) Now, If one visits https://n.knetreg.cn/RJS-lsmr you are given the opportunity to enter a name. I randomly invented the Chinese name 王安安. The system then informed me that there are 4 individuals with the same name and it is not registered and gave me the opportunity to register 王安安.网址 and become "the unique you". I deduce that the system must have access to a database of people names. This now leaves me with many questions and here are some of them. How many Chinese Historical Figures have a .网址 site? Who created the content for the "Chinese Historical Figure".网址's How many living people have a .网址 site? André Schappo

Dear UASG community, The UA Measurement working group is looking at UA-readiness on social network applications, e.g. Facebook, Wechat. For this, the working group is developing a statement of work and we are asking for your feedback since the final report will help UASG with outreach, training and remediation efforts. The document, located here https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_byW1hAAeiob_a7xErBFwpG6be9O6udu/view?usp=…, is a high level statement of work which describes 1) purpose, 2) scope, 3) high-level requirements, and 4) deliverables. Based on your feedback and internal work by the working group this document will be finalized with a more detailed version. At this point we welcome your questions and observations.
