A nice way to end a fairly productive year. Plans coming up: There will be a Universal Acceptance gathering on Monday the 8th of January in Hong Kong with the Hong Kong IT Community. This is being organised by .asia, ISOC HK and UASG. If you’ve not yet received an invitation but will be in Hong Kong that afternoon, please let me know and we’ll organise one. 15:00 - 18:00 at the Sheraton. The UASG Coordination Group will be meeting on Tuesday the 9th of January and the morning of the 10th if necessary, also in Hong Kong. The agenda will be out next week. Full remote participation will be available if there’s interest. There will be a meeting of EAI operators on the 11th and 12th in Guangzhou, China, hosted by Coremail and CNNIC. If you are an EAI practitioner and would like to participate and have not otherwise registered, please let me know. I expect that we’ll have remote participation facilities. The UASG is expecting another UA Workshop on Day 0 of the ICANN meeting in Puerto Rico as well as a public update session during the week. Dates and venues still to be confirmed. Welcome to Mark Datysgeld as a new UASG Ambassador Based in Brazil, Mark has taken a keen interest in Universal Acceptance and the opportunities (and challenges) that it provides to the local Internet community and the LAC region more generally. Mark coordinated the first study that looked at the UA Readiness of Brazil's leading websites and has since remained active in the subject. He is an independent consultant acting under the Governance Primer brand, providing advice and support for the private sector's engagement with Internet Governance. Proposal: Handling Numbering of the UASG Documents

So currently, the UASG publishes various documents such as UASG 0005 and 0007 and occasionally updates these documents to reflect best current practices. For example, the UA Quick Guide was on Version 9 before it was removed for revision. One thing I'm concerned on is that it's not clear that a document has been updated, nor what has changed from version to version. Furthermore, when dealing with old discussions, a document may have changed from a message or posted. During the F2F, I raised the issue that it may be worthwhile to change the numbering and management of UASG documentation to model it around the RFC/IETF where a document is static once published (with errata linked), and is obsoleted/superseded by future documents. This aids in help keeping track of what document is "best current practice", as well as making it clear what has changed from version to version. For example, when UASG 5/7 is revised, we publish them under new numbers, and the old versions are archived with a clear note that they've been obsoleted by these new versions of the doucments. This would make it easy to keep up with current best practices, while making it easy to look at a document when referencing old conversations and changes over time. Anyone have thoughts on making this change? Michael
