Hi Everyone, These presentations were forwarded from a conference session in Dubai on 1-2 April 2015. One is a presentation from ICANN on the IDN program and the other is some research on the compatibility of Arabic IDNs with various Internet applications. They reinforce the need for more work on universal acceptance, especially the report by Raed Alfayez of SaudiNIC. While I can get a lot of the problem and specific work from the slides, do we think it'd be good to have Raed present this material (or are these results already well known)? Regards Kurt

RIGF, small report

Dear all, Last week, Russia held the sixth annual Internet Governance Forum (6. RIGF) in Moscow, a gathering of officials, business people, and other Web “stakeholders” to discuss Internet regulation. It was a very interesting and very good one-day event, held in Lotte Hotel on April 7, and You can check the agenda on www.rigf.ru. Small jokes in the names of the sessions were only the cover for very good and fruitful debates. I will save the best for last. J First session was revelation for me. Called „The Bottom Up and Upside Down“, this session was focused on Internet governance and the influence of the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). The participants included Oleg Demidov (Russia), Lucky Masilela (South Africa), Marília Maciel (Brazil), Parminderjeet Singh (India) and Liyun Han (China). At the same time, the session called „We Share the Same Technology (Regardless of Ideology)“ was about the issues of the Internet of Things (IoT). The panel participants included Jari Arkko (IETF), Paul Vixie (Farsight Security, Inc.), Kaveh Ranjbar (RIPE NCC), Pavel Khramtsov (Netoscope) and Andrey Yarnikh (Kaspersky Lab). I skiped this one, but it was very interesting. The panel titled „Your Call Is Very Important for Us“ focused on cooperation between the Internet business community and governments. Vartan Khachaturov, Alexander Shepilov, Michael Yakushev, Dmitry Marinichev, as well as Frederic Donck (Belgium) and Julien Nocetti (France) took part in the discussion. I skiped this one also, because I was participant at the same time on the IDN panel. This year, registries representatives of nearly all national Cyrillic domains attended the forum, and on the session „Expanding the Cyrillic Universe“ we covered problems and challenges in the Cyrillic zone – participants: Mikhail Anisimov (Russia), Iliya Bazlyankov (Bulgaria), Pavel Gusev (Kazakhstan), Saso Dimitrijoski (Macedonia), Yuri Kargapolov (Ukraine), Sergey Povalishev (Belarus) and me. Thailand EAI Workshop on May 8th, 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand

Dear Community We are pleased to inform you that the Thai Netwrok Information Center (THNIC) Foundation and the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (Public Organization) or ETDA are co-organising a one day event on Thailand EAI Workshop on May 8th, 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand. The workshop aims to look at the Thai community to identify the key players and how to promote the usage of Thai IDN and EAI to enhance local internet penetration and minimize digital divide. Proposal for Universal Acceptance Session during the Asia Pacific Regional IGF - July 2015

Dear All: There is some interest in having a session during the APRIGF in Macao in July looking at Universal Acceptance Issues, particularly as they related to IDN TLDs. There have been similar workshops in the past and this looks to build on those. The expected output from the workshop is a matrix identifying who has done what and with what degree of success. This matrix can then be used in other communities as people advocate the UA platform. Apologies for this being so late, but we would like to solicit any comments that you might have on this proposal. It is due to the organisers on the 7th of April (Hong Kong time). The APRIGF is an annual regional IGF for the Asia-Pacific region. More details of the event can be found at aprigf.asia Thank you. Hi Don, Is there a short and memorable URL I can use to promote Universal Acceptance? I’m preparing my presentation for the next multilingual web workshop at Riga and will be touching on Universal Acceptance. I thought it would be a good opportunity to promote our efforts and rally people to get informed and hopefully involved too. I was thinking of a URL something like “icann.org/UniversalAcceptance” and use ICANN’s UA site as the landing page. Also, in the “Get Involve” link<https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/universal-acceptance-2012-02-25-en#in…> it would be useful to list all 4 or 5 links to join the mailing lists.
