During recent calls, there’s been a desire for some UA Use Cases. This from a document we had developed some time ago. I would welcome people’s suggestions for which of these should be tested - as there’s a cost associated with testing each one. As we move forward on the completion of our documentation, we’re looking for some community CIO’s to provide guidance about what should be in and what shouldn’t be in a CIO Guidebook. Our plan is to have a focus group of people that we know very well and who understand the issue but have the role of CIO or senior IT staff and can look at the documentation from that perspective. And after that, we will have a focus group of CIO’s from outside the industry who will be able to critique the result. So, if you’re a CIO, or know a CIO, and would be willing to read the existing documentation and provide feedback, would you please let me know. We’d like to try to do this through e-mail but we can organise a call if that will be useful. Thanks. Don

We’ve had the following request from Lars Steffen from eco: "I am contacting you because Jean-Jacques and I are exchanging thoughts on joint activities of ICANN and eco in 2016. One of the events we are discussing about is the Customer Summit of the Certified Senders Alliance (https://certified-senders.eu/) I am responsible for the Names & Numbers Forum working group at eco (https://numbers.eco.de/international.html) lead by Thomas Rickert. The Certified Senders Alliance is a joint project by eco – association of the Internet industry (https://international.eco.de<https://international.eco.de/>) and German Dialogue Marketing Association (DDV, https://www.ddv.de<https://www.ddv.de/>). The summit addresses the technical email community at E-Mail Service Providers and Internet Service Providers. Attached to this email you find a briefing paper for the event. From my point of view it is a perfect target audience to address Universal Acceptance. Jean-Jacques and me already discussed in general that it would make sense that ICANN appears on the agenda for a presentation or – if it may make sense – a workshop. With an “powered by ICANN” contribution we could give that topic the value we think it deserves. The Summit will take place 21 April 2016 (main event) in Cologne. The whole event will be held in English. Why I am contacting you right now is that Jean-Jacques and I were thinking about who may be the right person for giving a presentation / workshop on UA to mainly email administrators. To make it valuable, a deeper knowledge in technical layers is needed. When it comes to the UASG there are of course several persons who would be a perfect match. But maybe you have additional ideas who would be a good choice, maybe also based in Europe. I would appreciate your feedback on this and say “thank you” in advance for your efforts.” We’re looking for volunteers who might be able/willing to participate. Don

IDN-as-punycode-encoded-label in Baidu search engine results

Often times I hear that IDNs are not indexed by certain search engines. While I know this is not true, the example below doesn’t help my case either (at least not 100%). Here is an example where the IDN I’m looking for is showing up in the first 5 search results on Baidu (see picture below). However, the string is displayed as the punycode-encoded label instead of the corresponding Chinese IDN (i.e. xn--ebr05n.com) . Google and Yandex appear to work as expected. Bing didn’t display the domain name in the results (first two pages). Is there someone interested (and with the language skills) in taking the action item to reach out to Baidu? This might be in the form of opening a bug ticket to explain the problem (IDN is displayed as punycode-encoded label. Example: xn--ebr05.com) and what the expected result should have been (IDN displayed as Chinese domain nam.
