They continue to innovate this product. It’s easily the best solution out there for our threaded discussions and consensus building. We CAN hack something together with Slack and Cloverpop but this is definitely better….and open source! Venueless platform

Currently the DENOG12 meeting is held virtual only. They are using https://venueless.org/ which provides the best environment for meetings I'v ever seen. Most important features for me: * It works from the browser. Simply. * It provides separate rooms to have a audio/video/chat connection in parallel to other sessions. There after-session discussions can take place (like in the meeting itself). * You have social rooms to stay in touch with other people (seeing them while talking in small groups) If interested I'd like to make a demo. (Of course you can host it yourself)

Youtube streaming

Folks, Until today my advocacy for Youtube streaming was based largely on research and supposition but my wife and I are currently staying in an AirBnB in Tucson with incredibly slow internet: [cid:image001.png@01D6B1C9.9C3721D0] So slow, in fact, that I’m having difficulties maintaining Zoom calls which never happens for me. I’m blessed to live in areas in DC and LA where internet speeds are fast! Last night we attempted to participate in a virtual ritual for Dia de Los Muertos that took place over Zoom and we simply were unable to maintain the connection. Luckily, the event was simultaneously streamed to Youtube which we were able to watch just fine, albeit at a lower resolution than normal. I’ve heard a rumor that the meeting staff didn’t find much difference between the Zoom bandwidth consumption and the Youtube consumption but I’m here to tell you definitively, the difference can be staggering. It’s possible that video use on the plenaries are sharply limited so as to minimize bandwidth usage but that’s NOT the direction we want our meetings to go. We want MORE video participation in our virtual meetings, not less. I say this all to say that regardless of the reports we receive from the meetings team, we need to keep pushing for more widespread streaming to Youtube of both ICANN meetings and our capacity building webinars. How to network outside Zoom sessions?

Dear Colleagues, in today's ALAC Session with the ICANN Board today, Joanna Kulesza explained the negative impact of having virtual ICANN meetings on the At-Large Community, because the essential community building social and networking component part is missing from a virtual meeting. In recent months I have attended several IGFs and the UK IGF used an interesting social event tool called REMO. More details on https://remo.co/ A demo video is available on: https://youtu.be/P01JxUBNU2Y I could imagine a break, for example, where each of the tables on the one floor is run by 1 ALAC member. And 3 tables on the other floor are run by a RALO leadership each, and people can move around from table to table. I wonder if this could be fun and helpful? Interpretation for Virtual meetings

Dear Colleagues, using the interpretation tool today at crn.interpret.world reminded me how flimsy the use of interpretation is when using Zoom and no external provider like what we have in our working group sessions etc. For example I still have difficulty muting my Zoom room audio whilst listening to the audio from interpret.world -- it seems to require some kind of a botch to do it, or to use the interpretation App. A few weeks ago I attended the Swiss IGF which had the particularity that it took place in English, German and French. For this very purpose, it used a teleconferencing software called Kudoway instead of the more common Zoom or Webex - https://kudoway.com/?kudoway_eu I am happy to report that it worked really well and its features are pretty similar to Zoom features, but it is also really easy to switch from one language channel to another and to the "floor" too. Perhaps this software should be evaluated by TTF? Kindest regards, Olivier

Hello Jonathan and everyone, As I recall (but I am happy to be corrected, given the number of conversations going on around the community about virtual meeting support), those of us who have recently engaged with the Technology Task Force (TTF) have noted that ICANN org conducts technical, legal and other internal reviews before we can affirmatively confirm whether we can provide or support a specific tool. Based in part on the TTF’s suggestion, we began looking at Youtube as a possible viable streaming method for ICANN meetings. The pilot that Ash mentioned on today’s blog post is part of this internal review and, as such, we thank the TTF for making the suggestion. The pilot will allow us to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of offering this service on a larger and broader scale, e.g. for ICANN70. We have been looking into the TTF’s other suggestions for technical support, as listed in the letter sent by Maureen earlier this month, and I believe we should be in a position to provide the TTF with a fuller response very shortly. Thank you and the TTF for continuing to highlight the challenges that our volunteer community face, especially at this time when we are relying even more on virtual meetings than before.
