TTF proposal to ICANN for FY17 - Fixing the bugs in ICANN’s machine translation tool used for the LACRALO mailing lists

Dear All, Today is the deadline for budget proposals to be submitted to the At-Large Finance and Budget Subcommittee (FBSC). One longstanding technology issue is the machine translation used on the LACRALO mailing list. This has been documented extensively by the TTF at https://community.icann.org/display/LACRALO/discussion-of-LACRALO-mailing-l… Currently, the key issue is that ICANN doesn't have any dedicated persons to fix this software tool. There is only one person from ICANN IT staff who attempts to work on a new version of the translation tool in his spare time, outside of ICANN hours. As this ICANN IT person is very busy at ICANN and his volunteer efforts are appreciated, he has little to no spare time to work on fixing the outstanding bugs in the software. It is clear that a person is critically needed at ICANN with a mandate to fixing this software. Hence this budget request is for funding to be made available to ICANN IT staff for ICANN to hire a programmer to work on ICANN’s new machine translation tool and fix the remaining bugs so that the new software tool can be installed and ease the communication difficulties faced by LACRALO, the At-Large Community and ICANN Staff over the past 6 years. Although this proposal was submitted to LACRALO earlier in the week, it appears that LACRALO will not be considering any proposals for submission. How to save the recordings of Adobe Connect sessions locally

Well, discovered a way to download an Adobe Connect recording locally but I'm not sure how useful it is. Via https://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/24963-how-to-save-capture-an-adobe-… There is a simple way to save or capture all of the individual elements which comprise an Adobe Connect recording on the web. To do so, simply add the following to the end of the URL for the Adobe Connect recording you wish to save: /output/filename.zip?download=zip An example is show below: Original URL: https://www.example.com/p10101010 Modified URL: https://www.example.com/p10101010/output/filename.zip?download=zip You'll be prompted to save the file as a ZIP file. Extracting the file reveals a lot of XML and FLV files, however. Dev Anand

Hello All, The volunteer ICANN staff at ICANN has put some fixes into the new translation tool meant for the LACRALO lists. However, the TTF needs help to test the new translation tool. Are there volunteers, including ES speaking volunteers willing to help test the translation tool? In case you're haven't heard about the history of the LACRALO mailing list issues, here's a wiki page that tells all the sordid details https://community.icann.org/display/LACRALO/discussion-of-LACRALO-mailing-l… So, how can volunteers help? 1) step forward :-) 2) ICANN staff will add you to the new-transbot-en and new-transbot-es mailing lists which runs the new software. With Adobe Connect 9.5.2, Adobe Flash won't be required to attend Adobe Connect meetings

Looks like with Adobe Connect 9.5.2, desktop users can access Adobe Connect conferences WITHOUT requiring Adobe Flash to be installed. I wonder if the Adobe Connect add-in is multiplatform, meaning would it work on Windows, Mac and Linux? >From http://blogs.adobe.com/adobeconnect/2016/02/flash-free.html "Last year, we shared with you some of our plans for supporting HTML5 and other web standards. Membership Recently two persons form the NCUC list has expressed interest in TTF especially the Open Source and Linux efforts at ICANN. Do we restrict membership only to RALO membership? The TTF gets first peak at the next version of the mobile app! The ICANN55 Mobile App has launched in three app stores and online website https://meetingapp.icann.org.
