Spotted in the Zoom blog post about their Zoomtopia 2019 event: https://blog.zoom.us/wordpress/2019/10/15/zoomtopia-2019-unified-communicat… "*Simultaneous interpretation: *Users bring their own interpreters and Zoom provides multiple audio channels that mix the original and interpreter audio at an optimal ratio that enables the listener to understand the interpreter but also hear the tone of the original speaker." This would obviously be interesting to test when Zoom (and presumably ICANN will enable) Other things of note : "Zoom Chat -* Comments and reactions (beta): *These enhancements organize conversations happening in parallel and allow users to react to specific messages with emojis, greatly improving the user experience." *"Zoom Meetings* - *Live transcripts:* Following the success of recording transcripts, this AI-based functionality powered by Otter.ai transcribes Zoom meetings <https://zoom.us/beta?zcid=1231> in real-time and saves transcripts for future reference. - *Meeting notes, action items, and timelines: *Users may take notes directly in the Zoom interface or use Zoom’s live transcription (see above) for voice note taking. Notes and AI-derived action-items are automatically made available to invited meeting participants after the meeting via Meeting Timelines. - *Video and slideshow virtual backgrounds: *New capabilities for mixed-reality virtual backgrounds include support for videos and Microsoft PowerPoint files, in addition to existing JPEG support." Hi All, Just saw this on Facebook. The US Supreme Court refused to opine on a ruling letting the past ruling by the lower courts stand. That ruling found against Dominoes because its website was not accessible. This law now allows blind people to sue retailers if their websites are not accessible, https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2019-10-07/blind-person-dominos-ada-… The law says that the Americans With Disabilities Act protects access not just to restaurants and stores but also to the websites and apps of those businesses. This is a big win for accessibility. ICANN blog : Changes to Zoom

https://www.icann.org/news/blog/zoom-security-update Zoom recently added new settings to increase security and ensure meeting privacy. These new settings will enforce a password on all new meetings scheduled, but will not affect meetings that have been scheduled prior to 29 September 2019. The only participants who will be required to enter a password are those who join a meeting via the Zoom app and manually type in the meeting ID. Participants who join a meeting via a link in a calendar or e-mail invitation will not be required to enter the password upon joining, as it is included in the URL by default. Techcrunch: A flaw in Webex and Zoom let researchers snoop on users’ video calls

https://techcrunch.com/2019/10/01/webex-zoom-bug-video-calls/ A team of security researchers found they could tap into Webex and Zoom video meetings because many weren’t protected with a code. Researchers at Cequence, a startup focused on protecting applications from scraping and account takeovers, programmed a bot to cycle through lists of valid meeting IDs and get access to active conference calls. The vulnerability works because many companies and users don’t protect their meetings with a password, either for convenience or they had not checked their default settings, coupled with a limited pool of meeting IDs. By targeting the platforms’ APIs, they were able to automate the process. The researchers reported the flaws to both Cisco, which owns Webex, and Zoom in July. Both companies have since pushed out fixes. The attack would not be silent, however: callers who successfully access a meeting are announced.
