Apologies for not sending this earlier. Here are some notes re: the At-Large Social Media Strategy based on the discussions of the first TTF call Why have a At-Large Social Media strategy? --------------------------------------------------------- - To enable At-Large Structures to easily disseminate information from ICANN At-Large to its members and the public in a timely manner Some background : The At-Large Structure Survey 2010 (https://community.icann.org/x/ZY8i) identified that - many ALSes use social media tools like Facebook, Twitter - however most ALSes meet every 2-3 months - given the pace of work (e.g 30 day public comment periods) means that an ALS representative has a difficult task to distribute information to its members or the public and get meaningful feedback. - Outreach to individual Internet users that could become members of At-Large. Possible Internet users interested in Internet related goverance issues (including ICANN policies related to domain names) do not know about ICANN or ICANN At-Large - Social Media Networks have many users who are sharing information with each other Facebook: 901 million users, Twitter: 140 million users (as of March 2012) Current At-Large use of social media ----------------------------------------------- At-large on Facebook : 118 last year, 1200 At-large on Twitter : 0 followers last year ; 410 followers Requires individual login to update content on these networks which is time-consuming, Draft At-Large Social Media Strategy ----------------------------------------------- - have the emails sent to the ALAC_announce mailing list (which all ALSes receive) to be immediately sent to Facebook, Twitter (and possibly LinkedIn) - ensure that the redesign of the At-Large website caters for the sharing of information over social media Thoughts, comments appreciated. Hi all, I was working with Dev and I was proposing to re-organize At-Large Wikispaces, sometimes I feel that everything is more than three clicks of distance. So I want to ask you what it is your opinion about this. I was checking, just like an example, GNSO Wiki and I am wondering where is the similiar grouping on the At-Large Wiki. Please check this https://community.icann.org/category/gnso and comment. Do you think At-Large Wiki needs an re-organization? Update on IM

Dev: With apologies for the long period of silence. Bill and I have begun to form our examination of Instant Messaging for At-Large. Our current emphasis is on Skype, since this is the most commonly used messaging tool in At-Large (except for the chat facility in Adobe Connect, which is used to some effect during meetings) We have identified some concerns with Skype – among these are: - the use and effectiveness of in-line translation tools; - Skype's use in various Operating System Environments. Documentation and help is readily available for Windows and some has been found fo r Mac/OS installations. Documentation exists for for Linux, Android and the Ipad and Iphone, but it is inconveniently located on the Skype website; - integration of translation tools in various OS environments. We have begun to put together a group inside our ALS to help us in the first part of this work We will actively go out to the rest of the Task Force for further help once we have a better view of what needs further study (and documentation). In the meantime, however, we ask any member of the Task Force who wishes to please get in touch with either of us – fresh eyes are always welcome! Gordon Chillcott
