testing the rewritten translation tool for mailing lists

Dear All, A new rewritten version of the translation tool for translating emails between two language lists is ready for testing! Similarly emails in Spanish are posted to lac-discuss-es and machine translated to English and posted to lac-discuss-en. The custom tool to translate emails was first developed circa 2011 and had numerous problems. The wiki page at https://community.icann.org/display/LACRALO/discussion-of-LACRALO-mailing-l… has a detailed breakdown of these historical issues. In spite of an updated version of the tool in 2017, it was noted that in 2018 and 2019, there were numerous emails not being translated. Given the difficulties of working with code developed in 2010 and trying to add features, ICANN IT decided to redo the tool after ICANN65 and engaged a firm to rebuild the tool from scratch. And the new tool has been developed. Barring any showstopper bugs, the tool is set to be deployed to the LACRALO mailing lists later this month. More details about the tool will be presented on the TTF call on Monday. Simultaneous Interpretation coming to Zoom?

Hi All, Just saw this on Facebook. The US Supreme Court refused to opine on a ruling letting the past ruling by the lower courts stand. That ruling found against Dominoes because its website was not accessible. This law now allows blind people to sue retailers if their websites are not accessible, https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2019-10-07/blind-person-dominos-ada-… The law says that the Americans With Disabilities Act protects access not just to restaurants and stores but also to the websites and apps of those businesses. This is a big win for accessibility. ICANN blog : Changes to Zoom

These new settings will enforce a password on all new meetings scheduled, but will not affect meetings that have been scheduled prior to 29 September 2019. The only participants who will be required to enter a password are those who join a meeting via the Zoom app and manually type in the meeting ID. Participants who join a meeting via a link in a calendar or e-mail invitation will not be required to enter the password upon joining, as it is included in the URL by default. Techcrunch: A flaw in Webex and Zoom let researchers snoop on users’ video calls

Researchers at Cequence, a startup focused on protecting applications from scraping and account takeovers, programmed a bot to cycle through lists of valid meeting IDs and get access to active conference calls. The vulnerability works because many companies and users don’t protect their meetings with a password, either for convenience or they had not checked their default settings, coupled with a limited pool of meeting IDs. By targeting the platforms’ APIs, they were able to automate the process. The researchers reported the flaws to both Cisco, which owns Webex, and Zoom in July. Both companies have since pushed out fixes. The attack would not be silent, however: callers who successfully access a meeting are announced.

Via app integration (Zoom, Google Drive, Dropbox, Polls, etc.), Slack provides direct access to resources for student success; student services, tutoring, advising, professor office hours, social outreach, group projects, research, libraries, and more. The goal is to improve and enhance learning experience by giving educators and students a deeper sense of connection to the ASU community and an easier path to accessing support.
