Some of these changes do lose useful information. In particular, many timezone abbreviations were changed, and some or all of those changes lose useful information. I also noticed some changes in pre-1970 information, which some people find useful. I live in South Africa, and can confirm that "SAST" is the correct abbreviation here (although I have been unable to find the relevant legislation). To the best of my knowledge, most other African countries that share the same UTC offset do not use the abbreviation "SAST", so the change from "CAT" (Central African Time) to "SAST" (South African Standard Time) is wrong for them. --apb (Alan Barrett)
