Queries/Inputs from the At-Large Technology Taskforce (TTF) to ICANN IT staff
Dear David, Josh, Reed Seems we are about to start another ICANN meeting in Singapore just when Buenos Aires was just ending! ;-) As TTF chair, I hope to have a chance to talk with you in person about the following 5 items if any of you will be in Singapore, but of course you can reply to this email. I've cced the public TTF list at ttf@atlarge-lists.icann.org to keep the rest of the TTF in the loop 1) status of translation of LACRALO email lists Any progress since our discussions in early January 2014? It would be desirable to see some progress on this before the ICANN 50th meeting. 2) looking at suitable Adobe Connect plugins The TTF tested the direct dialout plugin installed in the TTF AC room and whilst persons from North America and Europe (specifically Canada, France) were able to use the plugin to have the AC room dial them, I (living in Trinidad and Tobago with a +1-868-6XX-XXXX number) was unable to have the AC room dial to me, giving me an error has occurred. No amount of permutations of the phone number (using "+1-868-6.." , "18686...") seemed to work. However, in thinking about this feature, there are some disadvantages - this wouldn't work for persons requesting dialouts to a hotel or office with a PBX where a receptionist operator answers. - this plugin uses a different bridge from Adigo, how would recording (incorporating audio from the AC room, Adigo and this phone bridge) be done? - this wouldn't be helpful for At-Large calls with interpretation since the person being dialled can't join a Adigo channel However the TTF on its calls have identified two plugins for Adobe Connect that could be of use for At-Large and we would like for these plugins to be installed for our testing after the Singapore meeting * Stage Lights - Stage Lights is a timer that helps keep presenters on time. http://www.adobe.com/products/adobeconnect/feature-details/stage-lights.html * SurveyMaker for Adobe Connect - Surveys and polls with eleven question types, built-in reporting, CSV downloads and much more. A demo is available http://www.adobe.com/products/adobeconnect/feature-details/surveymaker.html Whilst we won't be able to test this, this plugin might be useful for ICANN F2F meetings that use Real Time Scribing: http://www.adobe.com/products/adobeconnect/feature-details/closed-captioning... 3) Troubleshooting connecting to Adobe Connect rooms using Linux, Whilst I've started contacting persons who reported issues in using Linux to connect to Adobe Connect, I've haven't been keeping up with collating the required information, Gordon Chillcott and Bill Thanis from the TTF (cced in this email for reference) are regular Linux users and would be better able to talk the talk re: desktop Linux in getting the necessary information for you and to document the problems and colloborate with you on solutions/workarounds. 4) wiki translate plugins, I've pointed out that the Bing translate plugin works slightly better on iOS whereas the Google Translate plugin failed to work at all. Feedback on how the wiki translate plugins will work on Android OS will be done soon. Also, feedback on the quality of the machine translation will be sought from At-Large and to be done after the Singapore meeting. 5) separate Confluence wiki installation Although some proposed layouts for How At-Large Content can be organised, ultimately a separate Confluence wiki install needs to be arranged to test more detailed organisational ideas and possibly other themes and wiki plugins so as to not disrupt the existing At-Large wiki. A test wiki installation that's invisible to search engines with accounts for 5 users which should be more than sufficient to allow testing by the TTF. Kind Regards, Dev Anand Teelucksingh TTF chair
Dear Dev, thanks for this follow-up. Perhaps also a discussion about some of the AC room settings which I have noticed: there appears to be a way to define the default bandwidth for connection. At the moment it's set to "LAN" ie. very high speed, and I wonder whether that could be causing the recent problems we've had with people wishing to speak on AC but not being heard. Kindest regards, Olivier On 20/03/2014 05:20, Dev Anand Teelucksingh wrote:

I've cced the public TTF list at ttf@atlarge-lists.icann.org <mailto:ttf@atlarge-lists.icann.org> to keep the rest of the TTF in the loop
1) status of translation of LACRALO email lists
Any progress since our discussions in early January 2014? It would be desirable to see some progress on this before the ICANN 50th meeting.
2) looking at suitable Adobe Connect plugins
The TTF tested the direct dialout plugin installed in the TTF AC room and whilst persons from North America and Europe (specifically Canada, France) were able to use the plugin to have the AC room dial them, I (living in Trinidad and Tobago with a +1-868-6XX-XXXX number) was unable to have the AC room dial to me, giving me an error has occurred. However the TTF on its calls have identified two plugins for Adobe Connect that could be of use for At-Large and we would like for these plugins to be installed for our testing after the Singapore meeting
* Stage Lights - Stage Lights is a timer that helps keep presenters on time. http://www.adobe.com/products/adobeconnect/feature-details/stage-lights.html
* SurveyMaker for Adobe Connect - Surveys and polls with eleven question types, built-in reporting, CSV downloads and much more. A demo is available http://www.adobe.com/products/adobeconnect/feature-details/surveymaker.html
Whilst we won't be able to test this, this plugin might be useful for ICANN F2F meetings that use Real Time Scribing: http://www.adobe.com/products/adobeconnect/feature-details/closed-captioning...
3) Troubleshooting connecting to Adobe Connect rooms using Linux,
Whilst I've started contacting persons who reported issues in using Linux to connect to Adobe Connect, I've haven't been keeping up with collating the required information, Gordon Chillcott and Bill Thanis from the TTF (cced in this email for reference) are regular Linux users and would be better able to talk the talk re: desktop Linux in getting the necessary information for you and to document the problems and colloborate with you on solutions/workarounds.
4) wiki translate plugins,
I've pointed out that the Bing translate plugin works slightly better on iOS whereas the Google Translate plugin failed to work at all. Feedback on how the wiki translate plugins will work on Android OS will be done soon. Also, feedback on the quality of the machine translation will be sought from At-Large and to be done after the Singapore meeting.
5) separate Confluence wiki installation
Although some proposed layouts for How At-Large Content can be organised, ultimately a separate Confluence wiki install needs to be arranged to test more detailed organisational ideas and possibly other themes and wiki plugins so as to not disrupt the existing At-Large wiki. No amount of permutations of the phone number (using "+1-868-6.." , "18686...") seemed to work. I appreciate the feedback on this, I had not heard this concern directly, so I will investigate with PGI. In the future when you have these problems, let me know directly and right away. I am happy to resolve them with PGI. - this wouldn't be helpful for At-Large calls with interpretation since the person being dialled can't join a Adigo channel Good questions We quickly discovered the issue about the hotel/PBX, and will now have available operators (live people can only handle these types of calls). These calls would be arranged just like the adigo calls. This feature would be in place of adigo, you would not use 2 conference bridges. This is purely for the purposes of adding the ³view" of all callers within the adobe connect room, whether they visually are logged into adobe connect or not. This allows the chair to know everyone on the call without having to ask. This also allows hosts to increase/decrease volume on callers or mute callers from within the adobe connect, thus having less interruptions in a meeting telling people to mute their phones etc. Recording would be conducted just like a standard call. (in this case it would be *22) I have attached the key commands for the Host that they could use on their handset, or most features are available from within adobe connect as well. I am happy to provide a overview an the features available with this feature test. However the TTF on its calls have identified two plugins for Adobe Connect that could be of use for At-Large and we would like for these plugins to be installed for our testing after the Singapore meeting * Stage Lights - Stage Lights is a timer that helps keep presenters on time. http://www.adobe.com/products/adobeconnect/feature-details/stage-lights.html * SurveyMaker for Adobe Connect - Surveys and polls with eleven question types, built-in reporting, CSV downloads and much more. Once it opens up, the application is available in your adobe connect session. Again I am happy to walk you through this process. Yes, we have seen the issues with linux users and Adobe Connect. It is a browser/flash issue, but we have to yet determine and get to the root of the issue. Some users report no issues and others it does not work at all. Please continue to work with us, and communicate the issues. Dear Dev, Sorry for any delay in reply. I’ve recently been blessed with another addition to the family and am catching up on the many emails that have never stopped accumulating. I believe items 4 and 5 would best be answered by me. Regarding item 4, please do fill me in and let me know what decision you make with that. Regarding item 5, I have already set up a separate Confluence installation in a development environment. It is a barebones installation, meaning there is nothing there at the moment. It is not using any additional theme, only the default one that comes with Confluence. I have not added any spaces yet either. Please let me know what you would like me to add to it, such as spaces, themes, etc… I ask this because a lot of plugins are free, but many require payment but will grant for free to us after jumping through several hoops. I am now a professional hoop-jumper with these vendors. This will also require user accounts and VPN access, since this server is NOT accessible to the public so we will need to get tokens for those who will be needing to access it. I look forward to helping you further. Dear Reed, First, congratulations! Re: item 4 (wiki translate plugin) The Translate plugin which was originally installed in Confluence which many liked (and which lack of compatibility to the later versions of Confluence prompted this look for workarounds) has been updated. See http://www.appfusions.com/display/SPKMYL/Home. The latest version update was v1.3.1 dated March 28, 2014 (see http://www.appfusions.com/display/SPKMYL/Downloads+and+Notes) Perhaps this should be installed and tested. Longer term, the "Enterprise Translation Hub for Confluence" at http://www.appfusions.com/display/LNGOTKC/Home looks interesting. Associated YouTube video which shows it in action : http://youtu.be/dVrTwdMAJxE Re: item 5 (Confluence environment) Re: spaces and themes, - space with default Confluence theme - space with RefinedWiki Original Theme 4.0 : http://www.refinedwiki.com/en/display/products/original-theme-confluence-wha... - space with Brikit Theme Press http://www.brikit.com/display/themepress/Brikit+Theme+Press - translate plugin http://www.appfusions.com/display/SPKMYL/Home I think this would be a good initial start. For access, an account for me ( devtee@gmail.com) and certainly an account for At-Large Staff. Is there anyone on the TTF that wants access to help test the alternative layouts with the intent to come up with https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/Ideas+for+improving+the+organisa...
Please let me know what you would like me to add to it, such as spaces, themes, etc... I ask this because a lot of plugins are free, but many require payment but will grant for free to us after jumping through several hoops. I am now a professional hoop-jumper with these vendors. This will also require user accounts and VPN access, since this server is NOT accessible to the public so we will need to get tokens for those who will be needing to access it.
I look forward to helping you further.
Best, Reed

Dear David, Josh, Reed
Seems we are about to start another ICANN meeting in Singapore just when Buenos Aires was just ending! ;-) As TTF chair, I hope to have a chance to talk with you in person about the following 5 items if any of you will be in Singapore, but of course you can reply to this email.
I've cced the public TTF list at ttf@atlarge-lists.icann.org to keep the rest of the TTF in the loop
- this wouldn't be helpful for At-Large calls with interpretation since the person being dialled can't join a Adigo channel
Whilst we won't be able to test this, this plugin might be useful for ICANN F2F meetings that use Real Time Scribing:
http://www.adobe.com/products/adobeconnect/feature-details/closed-captioning...
A test wiki installation that's invisible to search engines with accounts for 5 users which should be more than sufficient to allow testing by the TTF.

Hi, Dev: A very quick progress report on the issue of Adobe Connect and Linux: Firstly, 64-bit Debian 6 works. This rather popular desktop system ran with very little setup difficulty. I tested it on the final ALT meeting on the Friday (that was who "Gordon Chillcott 2" was). We are in the process of getting ready for testing on Ubuntu 12.04, Fedora 19 and Centos 6.5. Some of these have installed with no difficulty, they've run the Adobe Connect test cleanly and then failed to connect. We'll give them a more thorough run of tests as soon as they're ready to go. In haste, and off to another meeting, Cheers, Gordon On Fri, 2014-04-04 at 09:34 -0400, Dev Anand Teelucksingh wrote:

Re: item 4 (wiki translate plugin)
The Translate plugin which was originally installed in Confluence which many liked (and which lack of compatibility to the later versions of Confluence prompted this look for workarounds) has been updated. See http://www.appfusions.com/display/SPKMYL/Home. The latest version update was v1.3.1 dated March 28, 2014 (see http://www.appfusions.com/display/SPKMYL/Downloads+and+Notes)
Perhaps this should be installed and tested.
Longer term, the "Enterprise Translation Hub for Confluence" at http://www.appfusions.com/display/LNGOTKC/Home looks interesting. Associated YouTube video which shows it in action : http://youtu.be/dVrTwdMAJxE
Re: item 5 (Confluence environment)
Re: spaces and themes,
- space with default Confluence theme
- space with RefinedWiki Original Theme 4.0 : http://www.refinedwiki.com/en/display/products/original-theme-confluence-wha...
- space with Brikit Theme Press http://www.brikit.com/display/themepress/Brikit+Theme+Press
- translate plugin http://www.appfusions.com/display/SPKMYL/Home
I think this would be a good initial start. For access, an account for me (devtee@gmail.com) and certainly an account for At-Large Staff. Is there anyone on the TTF that wants access to help test the alternative layouts with the intent to come up with

Hi Dev, First off. Thank you! :) Item 4 can be checked off now. That new version from Appfusions, a week old now, seems to do the trick. See for yourself, it’s already installed! The Enterprise Translation Hub seems nice. I’ll find out what the cost is. For non-profit, the Speak my Language plugin required that we donate $20 a year to a specific charity, which is not a problem at all. It was a bummer when it stopped working though, especially when they started ignoring my support requests. Anyhow, I’ll see what they can offer us for this. Regarding number 5, we will need to create you an Active Directory account and set up profiles allowing you access through our VPN. We’ll send you a private email with that once we have your requested items installed on the development wiki. We’ll send you that in a private email. We’ll also notify At-Large staff. They already have the VPN access, so they will just need accounts. I will need to acquire some licenses as well.
- this wouldn't be helpful for At-Large calls with interpretation since the person being dialled can't join a Adigo channel
A demo is available
http://www.adobe.com/products/adobeconnect/feature-details/surveymaker.html
Whilst we won't be able to test this, this plugin might be useful for ICANN F2F meetings that use Real Time Scribing:
http://www.adobe.com/products/adobeconnect/feature-details/closed-captioning...
A test wiki installation that's invisible to search engines with accounts for 5 users which should be more than sufficient to allow testing by the TTF.
