Andre: All three TLDs were applied for by the Vatican (plus .catholic, of course). In the application process, they were assisted by AusRegistry (ARI), which is now part of Neustar. Hello Mark, The Russian Orthodox Church and Vatican went different paths quite long ago (few hundred years), so Russian word for Catholic represents ideas of Vatican, and If you have not plans to insult representatives of the Moscow Patriarchate, do not congratulate them with the TLD. There are both a Russian Orthodox Church and a Russian Catholic Church; they are very different. I believe the American terms would be Eastern Orthodox (of which there are more than one) and Catholic. Do we know which this is for? The smaller keyboard and use of voice recognition may increase my incoherence. Apologies. Feel free to ask for clarification of my word choices. Dear all, Ok, word Catholic on different script (not only Russian Cyrillic). You have Catholic religion in Cyrillic part of the world. Orthodox religion is majority, yes, but please - don't make the problem without one. Leave the religion out of these. Please. They have this idea, and noone stops orthodox church to open new g on Latin with word orthodox. What I can take from this is that Orthodox church can use Old Church Cyrillic in domain names, and we should stick to our mission and technology. Cheers Dusan ---- Andrew Sullivan je napisao/la ----

For some of us on this discussion, our mission is enabling global experience rather than solely technology. So understanding the different perspectives of the conversation is important. It is also relevant from my perspective to understand whether there are any restrictions on how a domain name would be assigned when two organizations have equal societal claim to it. For example, gov.us is constrained - I believe- on who can use it. -Stuart The smaller keyboard and use of voice recognition may increase my incoherence. Apologies. All, We have an engagement manager that is assigned to the Vatican and are pursuing a case history with them. They have been very cooperative thus far including sending people from the Vatican for their signing ceremony and participating on a panel. I suggest if you have specific questions you need answer that we work with ICANN engagement manner on this as he’ll know the best contacts.
