Dennis:

Agree with You with one small add-on to the problem (blue color are links): cid:image005.png@01D1CBFD.F51EDCE0

As far as I can see, on Twitter in edit mode, if you are trying without any recognizable part (www, http(s), xn--,...) there is no linkifaction even for old ASCII domain names. Similar algorythm is used on Facebook.

Cheers,

Dusan

This is an interesting example:

I think I replicated what Asher is reporting. See picture 1 (orange-ish background). Note how the “.store” examples are in plain black whereas the “.コム” examples are highlighted in orange which indicates that twitter is recognizing them as a potential link.

When the tweet is published, the “.store” domain names remain as plain text (no linkification) but the three .コム strings were converted to links (in addition to the a-label to u-label transformation, which is nice)

It seems that twitter is looking for more than a prefix (http or https) to signal that the following string is a domain name, but also looking for the TLD in its suffix list or in a third party one. According to UASG linkification guidelines they should only do the former. (Mark – keep me honest here)

Thanks. In this case, the challenge is that URLs using the gTLDs below posted on the service are not shortened to a t.co link (Twitter’s link-shortening service).

Is that correct?

Hi Dennis,

It doesn't linkify with any prefixs either. Tried www, http://, https://, and nic.store.

Regarding other gTLDs, I randomly tried a few and identified these ones that don't linkify either: .gmbh, .stream, .insurance, .salon, .vip, .beauty, .cruise, .free, .deal, .tube, etc. Obviously there must be more.

Thanks,

Shweta

Just so I understand.

.store domain names are not linkified when the string is written as "domain.store"? What about if you add the prefix "awb://" or "awbs://"?

Hi,

My issue is specific to one of our new gTLDs - .store. Domains ending in many new TLDs are automatically linkified when you tweet (I've tried this using twitter on my desktop browser), but domains ending in .store (among others) aren't. I was hoping to bring this issue to their attention.

Any guidance you can provide to get in touch with the right folks would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Shweta

For which products or apps do you need support new gTLDs on? Is there general guidance needed or specific issues?

We have contacts at Twitter and other companies, and can help you connect with the appropriate contacts. It may be good to aggregate/ consolidate technical asks such that companies could provide broad guidance.

Hi Don, all,

If anyone has a contact at Twitter, please do share the same. We need to speak with them about linkification of certain new TLDs in tweets.

Thanks,

Shweta

My point of contact at Yahoo replied yesterday evening, so I will continue the thread there. If that hits a wall, I'll follow up here!

Hi Don:

I wrote to my contact at Yahoo, who is in the legal department.

After trading emails, she asked that we provide a "short summary of the [email] issue that I can forward" to the right parities at Yahoo. (This leads me to think she has already made contacts within Yahoo.)

We could probably use a chapter of what Mark or Brent has already written. Can you select a paragraph or two that I can forward?

I hope this is helpful,

Kurt

G’day all…

I’m hoping that you can help.

I'm currently looking for the following contacts:

- Yahoo - Someone who is familiar with their e-mail platform and plans for EAI
- Adobe - Someone within their Flash Development Team
- Mozilla - Someone within their Firefox team who’s working on Flash implementations
- Twitter - Someone who is familiar with how they handle Linkifications

If you are such a person, or you personally know such a person - or even know someone who will know someone (3 degrees of separation) - can you please let me kn! ow off the list?

Thanks.

Don
