Re: [tz] Egypt to change back to Daylight system!
Dears, Hope you are doing well! With reference to the below URL, we need to know the following: http://mm.icann.org/pipermail/tz/2014-May/020869.html * When the package will be released? * Will it include the Java updater tool? * Will it include the zic rule file? * As per the shared rules, I can see that the time change will be as following, o On 15th of May at 00:00:00, one hour will be added, changing the time to 01:00:00, is that correct? o If yes, then this won't be our case in Egypt, since the time will be changed on the 16th of May not the 15th of May. +Rule Egypt 2014 only - May 15 0:00s 1:00 S +Rule Egypt 2014 only - Jun 29 0:00s 0 - +Rule Egypt 2014 only - Jul 29 0:00s 1:00 S +Rule Egypt 2014 max - Sep lastThu 23:00s 0 - Regards, Shageaa

Thanks for the heads-up. Can you please supply a reliable source for this information, preferably in English? The news items that we have found say only "May 15" without specifying a time of day (please see below). If it's May 15 at 24:00 that would correspond to May 16 at 00:00. However, I can't find any source specifying a time of day. http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/100735/Egypt/Politics-/Egypts-g... http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/el-sissi-pushes-egyptians-line...
Time of daylight change is usually 12:00 am or 00:00 of the change day. So it should be 15 May at 12:00 am Egypt time (GMT+2). That is the usual here in Egypt. On Monday, May 12, 2014, Paul Eggert <eggert@cs.ucla.edu> wrote:

It's also common in Egypt to change on Thursdays at 24:00, and May 15 is a Thursday. Therefore, a transition at 24:00 is quite plausible. Can you please contact the Egyptian government for a definitive statement here? While you're at it, perhaps you can ask for exactly when the other three changes will occur this year (date and time of day), but May 15 is obviously the most pressing. Thanks.
Hello, while i was unable to get any "offical" link/declaration our Egypt office confirms that the change will be at 15 May "midnight" ( 24:00 ) Regards, Gunther On 12/05/2014 22:04, Paul Eggert wrote:

According to 'timeanddate.com' vision of this transition it will change on 15 May at 00:00: http://www.timeanddate.com/time/change/egypt/cairo. Regards, Aleksej On 12.05.2014 23:56, Ahmad ElDardiry wrote:

Unfortunately I think timeanddate.com got that guess from us, so this source doesn't count.
Yes, I can confirm we used the same guess for now. We have also done quite some research into this without landing on a different date or time, hopefully there will be some more info available in the coming day or two. Guys Thanks to all of you. But this is logically quite impossible....time change should be in the weekend, hence Thursday night / Friday morning. Could you please act accordingly and create 2 packages? Since we are running out of time here....until we find a formal announcement from the government. -----Original Message----- From: Paul Eggert [mailto:eggert@cs.ucla.edu] Sent: Monday, May 12, 2014 10:22 PM To: Aleksej Efimov Cc: tz@iana.org; Mohamed Shageaa Subject: Re: [tz] Egypt to change back to Daylight system! OK, but we're talking the Egyptian government here. Logic is secondary. :-) I have changed the May 15 guess to 24:00 and a new official release is now out. I'll send an annoucement shortly.
We have heard from our local Oracle support engineers, that they will be providing 2 different packages. One for tomorrow night and the other for after tomorrow. Would you please comment on that? -----Original Message----- From: Paul Eggert [mailto:eggert@cs.ucla.edu] Sent: Tuesday, May 13, 2014 5:00 PM To: Mohamed Shageaa; Aleksej Efimov Cc: tz@iana.org Subject: Re: [tz] Egypt to change back to Daylight system! I guess they didn't want to wait for the official version and released a preliminary version, which is what I'd probably do if I were in their boat.
We have heard from sources on the ground in Cairo that the switch is happening 24:00 Thursday, or midnight between Thursday/Friday. Unfortunately I don't have written confirmation (yet), but I'm trying to get it. -Andrew
