Do we allow CamelCase? Maybe that should be America/West_Wendover for consistency. -- -=( Ian Abbott @ MEV Ltd. E-mail: <abbotti@mev.co.uk> )=- -=( Tel: +44 (0)161 477 1898 FAX: +44 (0)161 718 3587 )=-

Do we allow CamelCase? Antarctica/DumontDUrville
DumontDUrville = 14 characters, which is the maximum allowed.
Maybe that should be America/West_Wendover for consistency. Thank you. I change the zone name in my proposal to America/West_Wendover
It is still only 13 characters. -- Tobias Conradi Rheinsberger Str. 18 10115 Berlin Germany http://tobiasconradi.com/

And there are more, but i simply did $ tail -c 4096 [.]/cvsroot/cpp-sys/shared/timezone.dat,v | less Or are you actually going for portable filename limits here. It's a bit late for that, is it. --steffen Forza Figa!

Or are you actually going for portable filename limits here. It's a bit late for that, is it. East-Saskatchewan is in ftp://ftp.iana.org/tz/data/backward "Canada/East-Saskatchewan"
which is not a valid name for a zone according to the current Theory file. ------ A file name component must not exceed 14 characters or start with `-'. E.g., prefer `Brunei' to `Bandar_Seri_Begawan'. ------ ftp://ftp.iana.org/tz/data/zone.tab does not list any name of a zone with a name component having more than 14 characters. -- Tobias Conradi Rheinsberger Str. 18 10115 Berlin Germany http://tobiasconradi.com/

Changing the backward entries to conform to the naming rule would do more harm than good! It's been a long time since I used an early Unix system with 14 character filename limits, but IIRC you could open a file using a longer name - it just truncated the name passed in. -- -=( Ian Abbott @ MEV Ltd. Changing the backward entries to conform to the naming rule would do more harm than good! Maybe that is the reason why I do not see any proposal to change the backward entries.
