I've been in touch with Paul Eggert; Paul is willing to serve as time zone coordinator. Paul has been part of the time zone community since the early 1990s; folks can read the database files to see the depth of Paul's involvement. I'd appreciate reactions to Paul's offer; please respond within the next week. (I hope to have a new coordinator in place sooner rather than later.) --ado

As a generally silent consumer of the tz data (and occassionally, tz code), my vote probably doesn't mean much. But Paul Eggert's long-term involvement with the community should speak for itself, and I would welcome him as the new coordinator. I'm from Chicago, so I'll vote for Eggert a few times. I'll also spend the day driving little old ladies to the polling place and helping them understand the ballots. David Braverman http://www.inner-drive.com/Demo/Timezones.aspx
While it's been a few years since I've actively worked with the tz data/code, I've been on the distribution since the mid-90s and have continued to monitor the list over the years. I can't think of anyone better qualified to step into the role of coordinator than Paul Eggert. Thank you, Paul, for your willingness to serve! Tom Peterson Begin forwarded message:

Even when I mostly involve in the list whenever Argentina starts flapping between ST and DT (and it hasn't for 3 years now), I wholeheartedly support Paul's nomination. This is just reminder that at some point the existing coordinator needs to pass the community consensus along to the IESG. RFC6557 The TZ Coordinator is an IANA Designated Expert, as defined in Section 3.2 of [RFC5226], except as regards to appeals, as discussed in Section 5 of this document. Roughly speaking, this means that the IESG will choose one or more experts to manage the TZ database, code, and mailing list. The TZ Coordinator will also lead work to develop appropriate service metrics. There SHALL be a single lead individual and at least one backup individual for this function. Also, has there been any discussion of a backup? Regards Marshall On Sun, Apr 1, 2012 at 11:59 PM, Mariano Absatz - el Baby <baby@baby.com.ar> wrote:

Willing yes, short term anyway, but a good choice, no, or certainly not for the long term, for the same reasons that I was never going to be the co-ordinator for anything more than a short term. For the backup you all should be finding someone much younger who is willing (and hopefully able) to remain with the project for many years, and quite probably take over after Paul has had enough (hopefully, for us, several, or even many, years from now). kre
Last week I asked folks on the time zone mailing list for feedback on Paul Eggert's willingness to serve as time zone coordinator. I've seen positive reactions from a bit more than two dozen people; I haven't seen any negative reactions.
