Re: [tz] Proposal to use Asia/Tel_Aviv for Israel - Jerusalem is not internationally recognized as part of Israel

One technical point worth considering is that a goodly proportion of the clocks in Jerusalem do not show the time that the tz database would claim they do. Given rough current estimates that the Arab population of (East) Jerusalem is upwards of 35%, and the likelihood that many of their clocks follow the Palestinian rules for DST rather than the Israeli rules, it seems awkward and inaccurate to use the name of the city for one set of rules but not the other.
Thanks for the link. It's difficult to pick a source from that part of the world without bias. It's an unusual case. It's easier to leave it as it is until someone figures out how people at that location keep track of time. Regards, -sm
The problem with leaving it as it is, is that it currently shows a bias towards one country which is not reflected by the UN security council, the UN general assembly, or any other country in the world, even the USA. It does not reflect world custom or standards, and it clearly makes a political statement; right or wrong, intended or not intended; to support an illegal occupation by a warring country against the wishes of it occupants. Though it may be accurate that the majority in Jerusalem use the tz rules specified, the error is that Jerusalem should not be listed as the largest city in Israel, since no one recognizaes that Jerusalem is in Israel, except Israel itself.
