Egypt cancelled DST

Dears, Egyptian government took the decision to cancel the DST, Can you please help to provide the updated package as to be able to apply the new/cancelled rules. https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ar&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF... http://www.youm7.com/story/2016/7/4/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AD%D9%83%D9%88%D9%85%D8%...

I don't get where all the different dates came from. First reports were regarding DST starting on the 7th, then the 5th was mentioned and now that it is canceled (if it really is) they say it was to be applied on the 8th. Additional reports concur that DST has been permanently canceled in Egypt, by both the Cabinet and the Parliament. http://www.sis.gov.eg/En/Templates/Articles/tmpArticleNews.aspx?ArtID=105572 http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/232478/Egypt/Politics-/Egypts-c... http://www.egyptindependent.com/news/cabinet-cancels-daylight-saving-time-fo... http://www.parlmany.com/News/7/101143/- -Matt

Dears, I know you have had many communications on this. Sincerely, sorry for that and hope you understand it is totally out of our hands. For now, the DST is officially cancelled and shared in the official news as well as through the mobile operators. The situation is that we have rolled the previous package in the whole network and we are in urgent need for your help and support regarding the below: - Cancellation package to cancel the DST that is going to happen on the system, on 7th of July as the current package is loaded already. - If there is a way to manually edit the time settings in the current package to make it for example as if it will change the time on 7th Of August? The reason behind that is to give us some time to load the cancellation patch (when delivered) in the whole network again (as it requires node restarts as well). Once again, sorry for the inconvenience and really appreciating your support. Dears, As Gano mentioned, yes we need the package of the cancellation, I know that the decision changed but we are facing a very limited time to rollback it. So we need the rollback package ASAP to start applying it to be ready. Egyptian [and other governments unable to plan ahead] folks, Please ask your goverments to provide a month or six notice in official announcements of time zone or daylight saving changes, and make them aware that software developers, local and international organizations, and global software providers have policies and processes to follow and standards to meet, so need adequate time to create, generate, test, and rollout updates, to avoid the same problems caused by politicians making announcements of changes without adequate notice. See any major software provider's web pages about daylight savings and time zone changes for their notice requirements. Picking the US Independence Day long weekend and the start of Eid to announce a change did not make things easier for anyone. If all else fails, you could use one of the Etc/GMT* definitions, choosing the correct GMT (UTC) offset. Watch out that the sign is the opposite of what you would expect (for example Egypt is GMT-2 rather than the expected +2, give or take DST). paul

Thanks, I installed the attached patch into the experimental version of tzdata on Github and will attempt to generate a new tzdata release shortly.
