The summer silly season is almost upon us, and here in the UK some MPs' thoughts are turning again to fiddling with the clocks. Yesterday (8 June) Nigel Beard MP introduced his Lighter Evenings Bill under what is called the ten minute rule. This would advance the clocks in England and Wales by one hour, still keeping summer time. The Scottish Parliament and the Northern Ireland Assembly could make a similar decision for their areas. One of the supporters of this Bill appears to be our old friend John Butterfill (now Sir John Butterfill), who has proposed his own Bill in the past. You can see the Commons order of business that includes this at <http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200304/cmagenda/ob040608.htm> and you can read Nigel Beard's speech in Hansard at <http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200304/cmhansrd/cm040608/debtext/... 08-05.htm#40608-05_head1>. I haven't found the text of the Bill itself yet. It will probably turn up on the Parliament website next week. Ten minute rule Bills have almost no chance of becoming law, so we don't have to worry too much about this yet. Peter Ilieve peter@aldie.co.uk
