Nice work, better than mine. Using the release mail is obviously the best way to partially reconstruct the history and give some meaning to each commit. But it is still not perfect: at best, the sccs / rcs information should be imported to a DVCS. BTW, setting up a repository now would only be useful for the interim maintainers, so that, when Arthur came back to normal business, he can replay the changes on its own versionning system.
