Wouldn't it be prudent to wait until the central government approves it? They may assign a name to it in the process, such as Assam Standard Time, or the likes. The fact that "baggan" means "garden" will probably be lost on most folks, although many understand that "chai" is another word for (or type of) tea. I can envision the multitude of jokes queuing around "tea bagging time". -----Original Message----- From: tz-bounces@iana.org [mailto:tz-bounces@iana.org] On Behalf Of Paul Eggert Sent: Thursday, January 2, 2014 3:37 PM To: Steffen Thorsen; tz@iana.org Subject: Re: [tz] India might get a second time zone Paul Eggert wrote:
A plausible candidate is 'BST' for Bagaan Standard Time. (POSIX requires at least 3 letters in time zone abbreviations.)
I now see that the time zone is also called "chaibagaan time", where "chai" is tea and "bagaan" garden; so perhaps 'CBT' would be a more-accurate abbreviation. Also, 'CBT' isn't used elsewhere in the tz database, which is an advantage. http://www.hindustantimes.com/news-feed/india/after-66-years-of-ist-assam-de...
