Please bear in mind that the "D" means nothing to most people in the English-speaking world - "Daylight Saving" is an American construct that is both meaningless and not used by the rest of us.
I would actually suggest that the Australian abbreviations be "EST" and "ESuT" if we were going in that direction. (But I'm still in favour of status quo.)
My research this morning poking around Australian TV schedule web sites indicates that some people in Australia are already using EDT or AEDT as time zone abbreviations in sites aimed at the general Australian public. So I suspect that this bridge has already been crossed, and I don't think it's a good idea to introduce yet another new abbreviation that no one is currently using, given that the only point (as well-stated by others) of changing the abbreviations is for human consumption. -- Russ Allbery (rra@stanford.edu) <http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/>
