I would be interested in hearing from people who want to help improve the currently rather feeble Java 1.1 implementation of time zones.
This couldn't possibly have come at a better time. I'm trying to design a billing system for mail for work at the moment, and Calendar and TimeZone together are enough to make a grown man cry - what with sixty-odd outstanding bugs in TimeZone alone (according to the JDC bugsearch thingy) *and* incorrect rules for New Zealand DST *and* wacko time zone names without explanations... The current solution I'm looking at implementing for converting syslog's timestamps into seconds since the Epoch involves hacking sendmail to explicitly output it, rather than trying to regenerate it from the log entry... :/ Want a hand developing it? =) -- J.
