During the first public forum at the just concluded meeting in Barcelona, a participant asked if ICANN was looking at alternatives for AdobeConnect. I believe looking at them can help us see what features to request for in AdobeConnect if we find something exciting. Dear Sarah, in the recent "Adobe Connect scare", ICANN stopped using Adobe Connect for over a month and I guess this provided us with the ability to test other systems, not just as a test, but in a production environment. It turned out that the two systems that were used as an emergency back-up were ill-suited for the job as they missed several features that Adobe Connect has. Webex came out worse. It seems that as soon as you use it with documents, chat, and several people on the call, the thing just doesn't work well and ends up frustrating everyone to end up hating it. Zoom came out okay but is missing several features, if only the ability to see all of the hands up in the correct order, and by someone else than the host. In the past we also tested Slack as a potential replacement for Adobe Connect, when ICANN was looking at alternatives. Yes, I too heard Ashwin Rangan say that ICANN was testing another platform and yes, he would not say which one. Also I recall some time ago of ICANN IT referring to the web-conferencing features wish-list presented in our ICANN60 TTF report as helpful (and Judith can probably say more on this than I can). In addition, Don Hollander of the UASG reminded me at ICANN63 that we ought to include UA/EAI compliance as a desirable criteria -- I thought this was useful feedback and have inserted this into the matrix. ps. Hi everyone, I believe we’re looking at a two-pronged approach to solving this problem. For our public meetings we have very specific room requirements to support translation and transcription and other unique features. For these meetings we will continue to use Adobe Connect as nothing else really meets all of our must-haves. It’s imperfect and we struggle at times, but it’s hands down the best on the market for our needs. However, for smaller meetings, conference calls, working groups, secure meetings, etc., I believe we would like to begin using Zoom. I don’t know if the decision is final and perhaps Mark Segal can chime in when he’s back from holiday. Hope this helps. Yes, I too heard Ashwin Rangan say that ICANN was testing another platform and yes, he would not say which one. Also I recall some time ago of ICANN IT referring to the web-conferencing features wish-list presented in our ICANN60 TTF report as helpful (and Judith can probably say more on this than I can).
In addition, Don Hollander of the UASG reminded me at ICANN63 that we ought to include UA/EAI compliance as a desirable criteria -- I thought this was useful feedback and have inserted this into the matrix.
