Could they not decide a bit earlier? All computers and mobile phones will show the wrong time for a week, as they are unlikely to be updated so quickly, even when Paul Eggert releases a patch. The required patch will be something like Rule Palestine 2016 2019 - Oct lastSat 1:00 0 - Rule Palestine 2019 max - Mar lastFri 0:00 1:00 S Rule Palestine 2020 only - Oct 24 1:00 0 - Rule Palestine 2021 max - Oct lastSat 1:00 0 - On 20.10.20 10:08, Sharef Mustafa wrote:

Some sources such as these say, and display on clocks, that DST ended at midnight last year, so then this rule will unfortunately not work for 2019. If these are correct about the time of the change. https://www.amad.ps/ar/post/320006 https://translate.google.com/#view=home&op=translate&sl=no&tl=en&text=%D8%B9... Thanks, I've installed the attached patch to the development repository, which will address this change. Since this is just over 72 hours away, we'll need yet another release soon. On Tue, 20 Oct 2020 at 10:02, Steffen Thorsen <thorsen@timeanddate.com> wrote:

In https://mm.icann.org/pipermail/tz/2019-October/028533.html, when Sharef informed us of the October 2019 change, they brought up this discrepancy and said at the time "it's safe to assume 01:00 as the time to return clock by 60 minutes", which we did. Comparing how this year's decision was written, though, perhaps that was not the case. The attached patch also adjusts the timing of the 2019 change to 00:00 instead of 01:00 and fixes a since-broken link. -- Tim Parenti

I think we should be very wary of accepting any commentary in one online news article as definitive, especially automated translation of other languages and especially scripts, without a native interpretation of the content and confirmation of multiple sources, as we prefer official or require "boots on the ground" notice of changes.
Most people in many jusrisdictions, including journalists banging out online copy, will be unaware at what time changes are scheduled, and may express themselves colloquially using the local patois, and in Palestine, as 01.00 becomes 00.00, the time goes back to midnight, a minor distinction to some. -- Take care. Indeed. To more fully clarify my thought process with the latest patch: The original announcement Sharef shared in 2019 (from the Palestinian Cabinet) said midnight and explicitly called out "Friday/Saturday" (though it only gave the Saturday's date), and the article Steffen just shared today further supports that. http://www.palestinecabinet.gov.ps/portal/meeting/details/43948 (updated link) "بدء العمل بالتوقيت الشتوي في فلسطين، وذلك بتأخير عقارب الساعة ستين دقيقة، اعتباراً من منتصف ليلة جمعة/سبت الموافق 26/10/2019" "as of midnight on Friday / Saturday corresponding to 26/10/2019" By contrast, the link Sharef shared today for the 2020 change (also from the Palestinian Cabinet) explicitly says 01:00. http://www.palestinecabinet.gov.ps/portal/Meeting/Details/51584 "بدء العمل بالتوقيت الشتوي في فلسطين، بتأخير عقارب الساعة 60 دقيقة إلى الوراء، اعتباراً من الساعة الواحدة من صباح يوم السبت الموافق 24/10/2020م" "as of one o'clock in the morning on Saturday 10/24/2020 AD" So, absent contrary evidence from "boots on the ground", I'm more inclined to believe that these differing writings from an official source do, in fact, represent an actual difference. -- Tim Parenti
Hi, Following the discussion on discrepancies in Palestine DST changes / announcements, kindly consider the following : - Palestinian government do not stick to certain rule regarding DST, it is a year by year desidion - DST announcements are usually few days before the actual date of change, though ..I'm not sure why - The wording of the DST announcement is not predefined or agreed upon, thus it can be vague in some cases - The cabinet website was late in many occasions to publish the official announcement in a proper time, thus we turned to local news sites, which was not reliable enough in some cases - There are efforts within the government to fix this, but bureaucracy left it behind I hope this clarifies the case...till next DST announcement "some time" in March 2021 :) Have a nice day.
