Northwest Territories joining Alberta in plans to scrap seasonal time changes
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/nwt-ends-daylight-saving-9.7170964 "[Northwest Territories] Premier R.J. Simpson announced Monday that the territory will move to end seasonal time changes and will adopt a year-round time standard instead." "Simpson has previously said the territory wouldn't end seasonal time changes until Alberta does." Meanwhile, Alberta's proposed change, mentioned yesterday <https://lists.iana.org/hyperkitty/list/tz@iana.org/thread/KHKTGFAIURBVZBBJBR...>, has yet to be introduced in its Assembly and raises questions about whether the Regional District of East Kootenay will end up continuing to follow Alberta or joining the rest of British Columbia. From the NWT government press release: https://www.gov.nt.ca/en/newsroom/premier-rj-simpson-announces-end-seasonal-... "Our government will begin the necessary planning to ensure a smooth transition here in the Northwest Territories. That includes developing a clear timeline, working with partners, and giving residents, businesses, and service providers the time they need to prepare." -- Tim Parenti
If the Northwest Territories adopt UTC-6 all year, the portion of Nunavut currently observing UTC-7 in winter (America/Cambridge_Bay) will be entirely surrounded by areas observing UTC-6 in winter. The member of the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut representing Cambridge Bay suggested that this region should also adopt UTC-6 all year: https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/video/9.7172665
