Also, now that the affected zones no longer observe DST, shouldn’t their numerical abbreviations change? E.g., shouldn’t this: 8:00 Mongol +08/+09 be this (for Ulaanbaatar)? 8:00 Mongol +08 (This is one problem with using GMT offsets as the short name for zones) Thanks, Debbie

No. There still exist past rules named "Mongol" that observed DST, and those should show +09. (Eventually this will all be replaced with %z). -- Tim Parenti
There are separate lines in the file for those, no? So: Zone Asia/Ulaanbaatar 7:07:32 - LMT 1905 Aug 7:00 - +07 1978 8:00 Mongol +08/+09 would become: Zone Asia/Ulaanbaatar 7:07:32 - LMT 1905 Aug 7:00 - +07 1978 8:00 Mongol +08/+09 2016 Sep 23 8:00 Mongol +08 Thanks, Debbie

Though it looks like only one of them is presented at a time, so this change wouldn’t be necessary. Debbie

As I understand it the change affects clocks starting March 25, so we still have some time. As this is the start of the silly season for daylight-saving changes, I was hoping to gather some more updates first. If Montana changes their rules next month, for example, I'd like that change to go in. There will be a committee hearing later today about Montana SB 206, which would eliminate DST effective March 12; although I normally don't bother the list with tentative changes like this, it's an example of the sort of thing that may happen. If there are no further changes by the end of the month, it'll be time to issue a new release.
Ping? Debbie
