News: Alaska modifies SB 6, holds working session
Just when I thought all DST bills for the 2015 US state legislatures were way past their shelf life. Alaska is revising its SB 6 and holding a working session this morning pm the bill. Details from the AK legislature web site here: http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis/get_complete_bill.asp?session=29 <http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis/get_complete_bill.asp?session=29&bill=SB 6> &bill=SB6 There appear to be two provisions of SB 6: 1. Exempt the entire state from DST, regardless of time zone boundaries 2. Petition the US Department of Transportation to move all of Alaska into the Pacific time zone. The effective date listed is January 1, 2017. Plenty of time - if this goes through. Although it'd be far simpler to have the effective date sometime in the summer when they're already on AKDT/PST (UTC –8); no clock change required. -- Tim Parenti
