Why is the file "yearistype.sh" in tzdata*.tar.gz instead of tzcode*.tar.gz (where it is used)? What is the purpose of copying "yearistype.sh" to "yearistype" during make? It seems unnecessary to have two copies of a file. Thanks for your time. Steve Ward

Because it is effectively data, it is used by the tzdata files, and changes in sync with those. | What is the purpose of copying "yearistype.sh" to "yearistype" during make? The data files want something called yearistype not yearistype.sh - the original has the .sh because it is written as a sh script. It could be re-written in C, perl, python, ruby, .... The "executable" still needs to be yearistype but there could be different implementations of that in different languages. kre
