Jashneel, Thanks for the heads up. Are you able to provide a link to some sort of official government statement or news article reporting on this? So far, my (limited) searches have come up empty. -- Tim Parenti On Mon, 11 Oct 2021 at 13:07, Jashneel Kumar via tz <tz@iana.org> wrote:

Thanks; I'd found that same page independently at about the same time. Looks like this was included in a speech announcing several updates to Covid-19 mitigation measures in Fiji. Proposed patch attached and installed in the development repository. This affects timestamps beginning in about a month (14 November, Fiji time), so we'll need to cut another release soon. -- Tim Parenti

It's likely that so many schedules have already been published assuming the Nov. 14 boundary that to "put Daylight Saving[s] Time on hold" with 5 weeks' notice will be more disruptive than to proceed as formerly planned. Will devices adjust in time? -- gil

There will likely be problems, yes. See "Samoa awakes to time change confusion" <https://mm.icann.org/pipermail/tz/2021-September/030796.html> for how things worked out in Samoa last month, though admittedly Samoa gave even less notice than Fiji is giving and other reasons also contributed to the fact that we published a new tzdb release barely in time. We do want to give early-adopters a chance to get it right, though. So although I don't think we should cut a new tzdb release today (as there's a chance Fiji's government will change its collective mind if enough comments arrive shortly), we should do it reasonably soon.
