Kazakhstan Airline Schedules
I have a friend in Kazakhstan whom, thanks to this list, I notified about the recent time change before it was widely known in the country. She says the transition was pretty smooth, but, over a month later, sent me a message, which I pass on (without the attachments showing the discrepancies) as an anecdotal demonstration of how hard it is to get all the pieces in place: Happy eclipse day! I'm sending an update for your friends on time zones and flights. I booked a flight in February to Frankfurt leaving this Wednesday. United says the flight departs 4:20 a.m., but Lufthansa sent me an email saying I could check in for my flight which leaves at 3:20 a.m. Yet another Lufthansa check-in screen and the boarding pass says it leaves at 4:20. Meanwhile FlightAware claims the flight is not leaving till 5:20 a.m. All have the same arrival time of 9 a.m. Nursultan airport website does not list the flight yet. I will let you know which one proves to be right! I think it's 4:20. One flight leaving at 04:20 arriving 08:50/+1 takes 31:30 with 19:25 stop in Dubai, costs 5* as much, emits 6* the CO2, flying ~33% longer, than the cheapest and most efficient, which has a 17:55 stop in Warsaw! -- Take care. Flight was NQZ (GMT+5) to FRA (GMT+2), not vice versa. Estimated flight time 7 hours 35 minutes (prevailing winds accounting for the difference?), with a 3 hour time difference, so depart 4:20, arrive 8:55 (4:20+7:35-3:00). My Google estimate was to the E (with the jetstream) NQZ but the flights I mentioned were to the W FRA from NQZ, and those times were from Google. Airline estimated flight times are often optimistic and Google details have comments like "often delayed 30+ minutes". Google can suck up data from airlines and sites like FlightAware to aggregate the actual times most passengers would experience. It's another resource for buyers to check before booking flights, like FlightAware, allowing you to check which route your plane will take to get to you, and the likelihood of that affecting your flight.
