I suspect the requests to have 2021b be 2021a+Samoa are reasonable - whatever view one has of Paul's changes and reasons. Internal processes of large organizations are not easily changed and modifying processes to accept 2021a1 will lead to all sorts of churn. I'd request: a: Paul move his changes to a branch and release 2021b as 2021a+Samoa b: Everybody take a break - at least for a (long) weekend c: Ratchet down the fury when we get back. Just my personal view,,,
Hi, Vote of support for the maintainer from me: please go ahead with the carefully thought out changes as planned, otherwise we'll never get forward, we'll just pause indefinitely. There's no nice way to say anything about internal processes of the users of the data, so I won't do it. Jaakko On Fri, Sep 24, 2021 at 6:26 AM Michael Douglass via tz <tz@iana.org> wrote:

Agreed - and while there isn't consensus on the way forward, this one narrow aspect does seem to have majority (though not unanimous) support. If it would be helpful, I'd be willing (not exactly happy, but willing) to take an hour and tally views expressed just on Paul's "2021a1 + 2021b" proposal vs "just release 2021b as 2021a + Samoa". It's all getting rather pressing, given that it's now only 32 hours until 2021a says Samoa will change its clocks. So, would such a tally actually be useful to anyone? Jon
