I'm forwarding this message from Jesper Norgaard Welen, who is on the time zone mailing list, for the reason given below. --ado -----Original Message----- From: Jesper Norgaard Welen [mailto:support@worldtimeexplorer.com] Sent: Monday, March 10, 2008 6:14 To: Olson, Arthur David (NIH/NCI) [E] Subject: Cuban time Hi Arthur Unfortunately I have no authoritative information on the expected change in DST for Cuba of March 30, 2008. I checked a few internet radios in Cuba as yourself, and both gave the time in Spanish as being without DST. Also these web pages show the time of Cuba without DST: http://www.cubasi.cu/ http://www.cubavision.cubaweb.cu/portada.asp In my mind there is no doubt that Cuba *stayed* on standard time this Sunday. What will happen March 30 is another matter. Perhaps nothing. Unfortunately I have no means to send this to the tz emailing list because I don't have access to my home email right now. Please forward if you can. Regards, - Jesper Nørgaard Welen Subj: Cuban time Date: Sun, 09 Mar 2008 21:58:34 -0400 From: "Olson, Arthur David (NIH/NCI) [E]" <olsona@dc37a.nci.nih.gov> ---------------------------------------------------------------- I'm in Maryland which is now observing United States Eastern Daylight Time. At 9:44 local time I used RealPlayer to listen to http://media.enet.cu/radioreloj, a Cuban information station, and heard the time announced as "ocho cuarenta y cuatro" ("eight forty-four"), indicating that Cuba is still on standard time. If I use Internet Explorer to view http://www.radioreloj.cu, scroll to the bottom of the page, and wait for the animated reloj (watch) to appear in the lower-right-hand corner, it shows 9:44--what we'd expect with the current time zone database stuff. Does anyone have an official reference for the March 30, 2008 Cuban DST start date we've seen on the mailing list? --ado
