Unicode CLDR supplemental/windowsZones.xml update? -Brooks Harris
Does someone know if the Unicode CLDR ../supplemental/windowsZones.xml has been updated? Following the best links I know to find: Unicode CLDR Overview https://cldr.unicode.org/index/downloads/cldr-45 Downloads https://cldr.unicode.org/index/downloads GitHub Tag https://raw.githubusercontent.com/RobThree/TimeZoneMapper/master/TimeZoneMap... This file says it corresponds with TzDb 2021a. Yet other notes say Windows zone were updated to TzDb 2024a: CLDR 45 Release Note https://cldr.unicode.org/index/downloads/cldr-45 Timezones Deprecating timezones that are no longer in zone.tab (America/Nipigon, ...) New Windows timezone mappings Was this file not actually updated or am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks, -Brooks

I agree this is confusing, but it appears to refer to the tzdb version resulting in changes to the XML schema effective version "typeVersion".

The latest release-45 log message for both: https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/release-45/common/supplemental/meta... https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/release-45/common/supplemental/wind... says they were updated by: CLDR-17351 Updating CLDR time zone data with IANA TZDB 2024a https://unicode-org.atlassian.net/browse/CLDR-17351 and log message -2 for release-45: https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/release-45/common/supplemental/supp... re zoneAlias entries says it was updated by: CLDR-17295 tz2023d data updates and cleaned up deprecated zones/metazone #3442 https://unicode-org.atlassian.net/browse/CLDR-17295 as part of: ICU-22620 tz2023d updates unicode-org/icu#2777 https://unicode-org.atlassian.net/browse/ICU-22620 indicating that recently they seem to evaluate the impact of tzdb releases within a week or two; you can see more history under CLDR project component timezone at: https://unicode-org.atlassian.net/issues/?jql=project%20%3D%20%22CLDR%22%20A... -- Take care. I agree this is confusing, but it appears to refer to the tzdb version resulting in changes to the XML schema effective version "typeVersion". Not sure of that. I've got other, earlier, that show <mapTimezones otherVersion="7e11500" typeVersion="2020a">On that line.

The latest release-45 log message for both:
https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/release-45/common/supplemental/meta...
https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/release-45/common/supplemental/wind...
says they were updated by:
CLDR-17351 Updating CLDR time zone data with IANA TZDB 2024a https://unicode-org.atlassian.net/browse/CLDR-17351 Yes. But that file https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/release-45/common/supplemental/wind... is identical to the one I have downloaded back with 2021.
I've also downloaded cldr-common-45.0.zip. It contains this same file. It does not reflect the commits Paul refereed to: https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/commit/9d96f340ab145003b3e6d12d95ffb16f1... or any others since 2021a, as far as I can tell. So I'm confused (its not hard to confuse me). What is the best procedure to obtain the latest windowsZones.xml? Is there a record of earlier versions? I anticipate wanting to possibly reviewing earlier versions. Thanks, -Brooks
and log message -2 for release-45:
https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/release-45/common/supplemental/supp...
re zoneAlias entries says it was updated by:
CLDR-17295 tz2023d data updates and cleaned up deprecated zones/metazone #3442 https://unicode-org.atlassian.net/browse/CLDR-17295
as part of:
ICU-22620 tz2023d updates unicode-org/icu#2777 https://unicode-org.atlassian.net/browse/ICU-22620
indicating that recently they seem to evaluate the impact of tzdb releases within a week or two;

These are reachable from the earlier URL I emailed.
If you have any problems with the file, please contact CLDR project. You can send a not to the mailing list or create a new issue in CLDR JIRA. For this specific one, I eventually patches time to time. I requested Microsoft folks to update the mapping time to time, but it did not happen so far. And.. I know the mapping data element still shows typeVersion=”2021a”, the actual data was reviewed and updated for each IANA TZ release by me so far. I’ll fix the typeVersion value in the current main branch to 2024a. -Yoshito

Hi Yoshito, That would be great, thanks. The old versions can't be fixed, but going forward it might at least help developers not make the same mistake I did. Thanks, -Brooks.
