SOCOG (the Sydney Organizing Commitee for the Olympic Games) have requested that daylight savings time start early in 2000, to make things easier when running the games. The proposed start date is 27 August 2000. This would mean Sydney having eight months of daylight savings time. Apparently the NSW Government is looking favourably on this proposal.
