Pitcairn switched directly from UTC-8:30 to UTC-8

Nov. 10, 1999
6:40 p.m.
Howie Phelps of Sacramento regularly talks to Pitcairn via shortwave, and in his talk yesterday he asked Betty Christian about the time zone situation there. Today he wrote me: Betty Christian told me yesterday that their local time is the same as Pacific Standard Time. They used to be 1/2 hour different from us here in Sacramento but it was changed a couple of years ago. So when it is noon here it is also noon on the island. This confirms Rives McDow's report of the proclamation of the Governor of Pitcairn, and refutes the CIA's and UK Hydrographic Office's claims that Pitcairn switched to UTC-9 a few years ago.
