Question about leap-seconds.list expiry
Hi, I hope this is the appropriate list for questions about the leap-seconds file. It seems the `leap-seconds.list` file hosted on the IANA server [1] is about to expire on 28 December 2025, and its latest update NTP timestamp (01 July 2025) appears to be older than the timestamp on the upstream bulletin [2] (07 July 2025). The obspm.fr servers also appear to host a leap-seconds.list file [3] with an expiry date of 28 June 2026. With the current expiry date approaching, I was wondering if the IANA-hosted file will be updated to have an expiry date in the future. As a side note, the leap-seconds.list file shipped in tzdata on Debian [4] already seems to use the 2026 expiry date. Yes, it's time for a new release if only for that reason. I was hoping the next release could cover the situation in Nunavik next year, but so far have not heard back from any of my attempts to contact Makivvik to get confirmation and/or details about the change and so I guess that will have to wait until a later TZDB release.

The last IERS leap-seconds.list -> leap-seconds.3960835200 from 2025-07-07 expires at NTP timestamp 3991593600 on 2026-06-28 as usual. This agrees with the content in your dev repo posted by Tim on 2025-07-07, but differs from the outdated file from 2025-01-07 include in tzdata 2025b. The next leap-seconds.list -> leap-seconds.3976646400 will likely be issued 2026-01-06 expiring at NTP timestamp 4007404800 on 2026-12-28 as usual. This is based on the recent history of leap second files being issued about the 2nd Tuesday of January, depending on when the New Year and weekend falls, but may also depend on when USNO predictions are available.
